Three More Athletes Punch Their Ticket to Oregon

In the final day of the East Regional on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville three more local athletes qualified for the NCAA Track and Field National Championships. They will participate again on Hayward Field for a national title.
Those Who Advanced
Gwenno Goode from La Salle qualified in the Women’s 3000m Steeple on time. The top three finishers in the three heats qualified automatically, then the next three fastest times would go to Eugene. Goode placed 11th overall, and was the third time qualifier running the distance in 10:01.65. She was fourth in her heat that Doris Lemngole of Alabama, who led from start to finish, won in 9:13.12.
Sadie Sigfstead form Villanova moves on in another distance run as she qualified on time running a personal best in the Women’s 5000m. Sigfstead covered the distance in 15:33.68. She finished seventh in her heat. The top five finishers in each of the two heats would be automatic qualifiers, then the next two fastest times would move on. Sigfstead had the second fastest time despite placing seventh in heat two to be the final qualifier. The fastest advancer is Grace Hartman of NC State who set a facility record of 15:23.52. In the field Angeludi Asaah of the University of Pennsylvania advanced in the Women’s Discus placing 5th with a throw of 56.32m (184’9″). The top twelve moved on to Oregon. Her placing throw was on her first attempt. Also in the event was Adria Retter of Villanova who placed 37th throwing the discus 46.02m (151′).
Athletes Who Did Not Advance
Fore Abinusawa ran in the Women’s 100m quarterfinal. She did not advance, but the time of 11.3 is a season best for Abinusawa.
In the Women’s Triple Jump Penn had two athletes in the event. Adannia Agbo finished 20th turning in an effort of 12.66m. Olutuminu Onaleye fouled on her only jump.
There were four athletes representing Big Five schools in the Women’s High Jump. None would qualify for the nationals. Villanova’s Malaika Cunningham tied for 17th place clearing the bar at 1.74m. Amira Green from Temple also had a height of 1.74m and finished tied for 25th place. From Penn Zofia Limbert placed 43rd clearing the bar at 1.69m. Samantha Strydesky of Penn missed on her first three attempts and recorded no height.
Penn fielded a team in the Women’s 4 x 100m Relay turning in a time of 44.64 to finish 21st.
