Langon Puts Villanova On the Scoreboard in Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Marco Langon Finishes Fourth in Men’s 5000m

In the men’s 500m race of the Men’s Outdoor NCAA Men’s Track and Field Championships Villanova distance runner Marco Langon finished in forth place covering the distance in 13:42.77. Also in this race was Habtom Samuel of New Mexico. He holds the collegiate record in this event, and now is the national champion with a winning time of 13:38.93. By placing Langon earns 5 team points for the Wildcats.

The Nova junior ran within the top five runners for most of the race. He made his move with two laps remaining, then took the lead at the bell lap. In the backstretch Samuel went to the front, He and Wake Forest runner Rocky Hansen dueled down the stretch. Hansen could not handle the final sprint of Samuel who ran a final split of 55.53. Hanson ran a last sprint of 56.76 (13:39.91). Louisville’s Elsingi Kipruto was in third place with a time of 13:42.58.

Samuel won the 10,000m two says ago.

Earlier in the day the Kampton Kam of the University of Pennsylvania competed in the high jump. He had a height of 2.11m which he cleared on his first jump. Kam then missed three times at at 2.16m, and was eliminated from the competition. Kimani Jack of Georgia won the event with a jump of 2.28m. The high jumpers that finished from third through seventh place set a personal or season best.
