Penn Posts Points on Women’s NCAA Track and Field Championships Scoreboard

Jessica Oji Places in Women’s Shot Put

University of Pennsylvania freshman Jessica Oji finished fourth in the Women’s Shot Put at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, OR. In her fifth throw Oji posted a distance of 17.98m. due to her effort the Quakers put 5 points on the women’s team scoreboard. The Red and Blue is currently tied for 19th place in team scoring with Baylor, Missouri, and Louisville.

Alexina Johansson of Nebraska won the event with a meet record distance of 19.92m in the third round. Johansson won the event by 1.88m. Her season best is 19.97m set at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in May of 2026.

The Quakers had a chance to score more team points as Lily Murphy competed in the final of the Women’s 10,000 Meter run. Murphy did not earn team points finishing the run in 33:13.58 to finished 23rd. The senior qualified with a time of 32:53.30 set in the Eastern Regional

The race was expected to be a duel between Jane Hedengren of BYU and defending champion Pamela Kosgei from New Mexico. The two runners lead in the last lap, but around the final turn Iowa State runner Mercyline Kirwa passed them and pulled away to win the national championship hitting the finish line in 31:54.88. Kosgei was second covering the distance in 31:56.49. Hedengren ran a 31:57.94 for third place.

Penn has the opportunity to score in the men’s competition as Kampton Kam is in the men’s high jump final. Villanova has a finalist in the Men’s 5000m as Marco Langon will take to the starting line.
