The Penn Junior Hurdler Finishes in 12th Position Overall – Does Not Advance to the Finals

University of Pennsylvania junior Ryan Matulonis ran in the third heat of the NCAA Championships 400m Hurdles race. He turned in a time of 49.40 to finish 5th in the heat. The top-two finishers in each heat and the next three fastest times would move on to the finals on Friday. Matulonis did not advance to the championship race. His time was the 12th fastest overall.
Ja’Qualon Scott of Georgia won the heat and has the fastest qualifying time at 48.59. Last season Scott was the runnerup in this event. The ninth qualifier is Devin Nugent of Auburn who crossed the finish line in 49.47.
Matulonis ran in the championships last season. His personal best of 49.25 was set in this season’s Eastern Regional.
Penn has three more athletes in the championships; distance runner Lily Murphy who will compete in the women’s 10,000m, women’s shot putter Jessica Oji, and men’s high jumper Kampton Kam. Marco Langon of Villanova will compete in the men’s 5000m.
