Saint Joseph’s Unbeaten Streak Reaches Six Games,  Penn Undefeated In Five Straight,  Kristin Barbour Tallies A Hat Trick For Villanova

Week of September 13 – 20, 2016 Games

DREXEL 4 – 4 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Penn

Summary – Both the Dragons and the Quakers got their first tie of the season in the women’s soccer Battle of 33rd Street.  Each team had good scoring opportunities late in the game and in the first overtime.  The goal keepers rose to the occasion to keep it a scoreless draw.  Christina Ogunsami had seven saves for Drexel.  Kitty Qu recorded six saves for Penn.

Next Game – 9/23 vs. Hofstra at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 2 – 6 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 2 (2 OT) vs. Villanova at McCarthy Stadium, Lost 1 – 0 at St. John’s

Summary – Late goals proved to be the undoing for the Explorers.  Villanova scored twice in the second half with the tying goal coming in the 89th minute by Kristin Barbour.  In the 102nd minute Barbour ended the game.  Jess Shanahan and Clarisssa Kirsch-Davis got the La Salle goals.  At St. John’s a score by Shea Connors at the 81:03 mark was the difference for the Red Storm.

Next Game – 9/29 vs. Massachusetts at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 4 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 2 – 0 vs. Towson, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Drexel both at Rhodes Field

Summary – The home weekend series yielded a win and a draw.  During the stretch the Quakers did not allow a goal.  Paige Lombard and Sasha Stephens found the back of the net for Penn in the Towson game.  Against Drexel the goals came up big to preserve the tie, the first draw for the Red and Blue and the Dragons.  Kitty Qu saved six while the Drexel keeper Christina Ogunsami turned away seven Penn shots.

Next Game – 9/24 vs. Harvard at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  6 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 2 – 1 vs. Columbia in Teaneck, NJ

Summary – The Hawks unbeaten streak stands at six games.  SJU defeated Columbia at Farleigh Dickinson Stadium.  Saint Joe’s fell behind 1 – 0 early in the contest.  Emily Gingrich tied it in the 25th minute on a penalty kick.  Later in the half Dakota Mills provided the game-winner  off a cross from Kylie D’Ambra.  Mills leads the team in goals with six.

Next Game – 9/23 at LIU Brooklyn

TEMPLE 3 – 7 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 American

Results – Lost 2 – 0 at Mount Saint Mary’s, Won 2 – 0 vs. NJIT at the Temple Sports Complex, Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at Lehigh

Summary – The Owls earned their first home win of the season beating the Highlanders of NJIT.  Temple lost by the same score at Mount Saint Mary’s during the week.  At home Cydney Niedermeyer got the Cherry and White going 3:15 into the game tipping in a free kick.  Morgan Morocco put home a header early in the second half for the win.  Jordan Nash recorded her third shutout saving seven.   Nash made nine saves against undefeated Lehigh who got the only goal of the game in the 99th minute.

Next Game – 9/29 vs. Memphis at the Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA  2 – 7 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 3 – 2 (2 OT) at La Salle, Lost 3 – 0 at Harvard

Summary – After being down 2 – 0 at intermission in the La Salle game, Villanova stormed back with two goals in the second half to send the game into overtime.  Kristin Barbour scored both goals with the game-tying score coming in the 88th minute.  Barbour put home the winner in the 102nd minute for her hat trick.  The Wildcats concluded their non-conference schedule falling to Harvard 3 – 0.  Nova was outshot 20 – 7.
