Saint Joseph’s Rolls Along, Penn Getting Fast Starts, Drexel Picks Up Two Conference Wins

Week of September 28 – October 4, 2016 Games

DREXEL 7– 5 – 1 Overall, 3 – 1 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 1 – 0 at James Madison, Won 2 – 0 at Towson

Summary – The Dragons swept the weekend games and posted back to back shutouts on the road.  Goal Keeper Christina Ogunsami made 12 saves over the two games.  Drexel got a goal from Shaelyn McCarty in the 88th minute in the win over JMU.  Vanessa Kara and Madison Dunn scored in the Towson game.

Next Game – 10/7 vs. College of Charleston at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 3 – 6 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 1 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Massachusetts at McCarthy Stadium, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Davidson

Summary –  For the Explorers it was a pair of overtime games that resulted in a win and a draw.  The only goal over the set was a breakaway by Maci Bower with the assist going to Deja Davis at 106:24.  La Salle posted back to back shutouts.

Next Game – 10/6 vs. George Washington at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 6 – 2 – 1 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 5 – 0 at Cornell, Won 4 – 0 vs. American U. at Rhodes Field

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania got three goals in a 24 minute span to roll past Cornell.  Then took a 3- 0 lead 7 minutes into the match against American.  Specializing in the quick start Penn has scored 14 of their last 20 goals in the first 26 minutes of the match.  Over the week Sasha Stephens and Emma Loving scored two goals.

Next Game – 10/8 vs. Columbia at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  8 – 1 – 2 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 2 – 1 vs. George Washington at Sweeney Field, Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) at Fordham

Summary – The streak continues up to 9 games unbeaten.  Lauren Dimes and Michaela Finneyfrock scored first half goals against the Colonials.  In the Bronx both teams scored just over a minute apart.  Gabrielle Vagnozzi recorded the SJU goal.  Conference play is in full swing for the Hawks.

Next Game – 10/6 at Rhode Island

TEMPLE 3 – 9 – 0 Overall 0 – 2 – 0 American

Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. Memphis Lost 2 – 1 vs. Tulsa at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – Goal Keeper Jordan Nash made a career-high 17 saves as Memphis put 18 shots on goal.  The game-winner for the Tigers came in the 57th minute.  Nash recorded 8 saves in the loss to Tulsa.  Molly Tobin gave the Owls the lead, but the Golden Hurricane tied it five minutes later.  Rachel Thun hit the game winner in the 65th minute.

Next Game – 10/6 at Houston

VILLANOVA  3 – 8 – 0 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 3 – 1  vs. Creighton at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary – Kristin Barbour was named the Big East Freshman of the Week.  Barbour scored two goals, the game-winner and the insurance goal in the conference win against the Blue Jays.  Ida DiClemente scored the other Wildcat goal.

Next Game – 10/6 at Providence
