Week of October 22 – October 29, 2012 Games

DREXEL 11 – 3 – 2, 7 – 1 – 1 CAA

Results – Won 2 – 1 at Hofstra

Summary –

Drexel 2 Hofstra 1 – Robert Liberatore sent a free kick toward the goal. The ball took a large bounce that went over the goal keeper’s head in the 83rd minute to give Drexel the victory. Nathan Page scored in the 2nd minute giving the Dragons a 1- 0 lead. Hofstra tied it in the 76th minute, but Drexel bounced back with the game winner less than 7 minutes later.

Next Game – vs. James Madison University 11/2 at Vidas Field.

LA SALLE 8 – 6 – 3, 2 – 4 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Saint Joseph’s, Lost 3 – 0 vs. Temple both games at McCarthy Stadium

Summary –

LaSalle 1 Saint Joseph’s 1 (2 OT) –The Explorers outshot the Hawks 31 – 15, but came away with a 1 – 1 overtime tie. Tom Kalpokas netted his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Jidell Roach got the assist.

Temple 3 LaSalle 0 –The Explorers gave up a goal 4 minutes before halftime. Then less than a minute after the intermission the Owls scored another en route to the win. John McCarthy made 9 saves for LaSalle.

Next Game – at Saint Bonaventure 11/2

PENN – 2 – 12, 0 – 5 Ivy League

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. #11 Brown at Rhodes Field

Summary –

Brown 1 Penn 0 – #11 Brown scored at the 3:59 mark getting the only goal they needed to down the Red and Blue. Max Kurtzman made 8 saves in the game, 6 in the first half. Brown has given up just 7 goals this season.

Next Game – at Princeton 11/3

SAINT JOSEPH’S 5 – 10 – 2, 1 – 5 – 2 Atlantic 10

Result – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) at LaSalle, Tied 0 – 0 at Fordham

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 1 LaSalle 1 (2 OT) – Goal Keeper Andrew D’Ottavi made a season-best 12 saves, 5 in the last 27 minutes of regulation and 3 in the overtime periods. Alex Critzos scored for the Hawks in the 27th minute.

Saint Joseph’s 0 Fordham 0 (2 OT) – The Hawks earned another overtime draw. Credit this one to the Hawks defense and D’Ottavi who made 10 saves giving him 22 over the last two games. This was the third shutout of the season for D’Ottavi who stopped a penalty kick in the 15th minute of the game.

For his efforts Andrew D’Ottavi was named the Soccer Six Defender of the Week.

TEMPLE 9 – 5 – 2, 5 – 1 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 0 at Fordham, Won 3 – 0 vs. LaSalle at the Ambler Sports Complex

Dan Scheck recorded his fourth shutout, his second of the weekend. Nolan Hemmer and Homero Rodriguez also scored for the Cherry and White.

VILLANOVA 11 – 5 – 2, 3 –30 – 2 Big East

Results – Lost 3 – 2 (OT) at Rutgers, Won 4 – 0 vs. Pittsburgh at the Villanova Soccer Complex

Summary –

Rutgers 3 Villanova 2 (OT) – The Wildcats tied the game twice in the final minutes of regulation, but a Rutgers goal in the 99th minute resulted in the overtime loss. Kyle Soroka scored to even the game in the 81st minute. Rutgers answered 6 minutes later, but an own goal for the Scarlet Knights sent the game into overtime.

Villanova 4 Pittsburgh 0 – The Wildcats secured a berth in the Big East Tournament with the shutout win over the Panthers. Ryan Whalen, Ryan Quane, Hayden Harr, and Adetomiwa Adewole scored for Villanova.
