Monmouth’s Night in the Newly Ignited Rivalry

The Monmouth Hawks Win at the DAC 93 – 73

PHILADELPHIA, PA. 2/12/2026 –

It is now known as the rivalry. Since Delaware left the Coastal Athletic Association the closest geographic member of the conference to Drexel is Monmouth. This newest rivalry is based on distance between these schools. The Dragons won the first game on the home court of the Hawks 73 – 51. At the DAC Monmouth took home a 93 – 73 victory. So the rivalry scoreboard stands at 1 – 1.

“If you were at our game in West Long Branch, it was similar tonight, we were on the receiving end of that,” said Drexel Coach Zach Spiker. “So both teams got big wins, and played well, maybe their best, on the other team’s floor. Certainly disappointing where you are in the season and where you are in the calendar.”

The 93 points given up is the most surrendered by the Dragons this season, and is the Hawks highest offensive output in the CAA.

Early First Half Drought by Drexel Set the Tone

Drexel started the game with a 5 – 0 lead. It did not last long as Monmouth scored the next 10 points. Later in the first half the Dragons got to within 21 – 14, then a scoring drought hit. Drexel did not score again until for the next 5 minutes and 15 seconds missing their next ten shots, a free throw and 3 turnovers. The Hawks led 34 – 14 before a basket by Dragons forward Victor Panov which ended a 13 – 0 run. It set the tone for the rest of the game. The closest Drexel could get was 15 points.

“I thought they brought some physicality to it,” Spiker said. “There were a couple of areas where we had some chances to close that gap. We haven’t had team shoot like that against us. It was a big hole. We had to come back. We weren’t able to really able to get any momentum that forces a turnover.”

In that first half Drexel made 7 of 24 field goal attempts (29%) and 3 of 11 three-pointers. Monmouth was good on 18 of 35 shots (51%) and drained half of their 12 from beyond the arc. The Dragons turned the ball over 7 times leading to 12 Hawks points.

It got better in the second half for the hosts, but the hill was too steep to climb.
