Drexel Falls in Double Overtime to Monmouth

The Hawks Survive the Dragons 62 – 60 After 10 Extra Minutes

PHILADELPHIA, PA. 2/8/2026 –

It was an expected close game between two teams that came in tied for third place in the CAA. The teams played three games ago, and it was a three-point win for Monmouth. The expectation met the reality as Monmouth earns a 62 – 60 double overtime win at the DAC. Hawks forward Divine Dibula led Monmouth getting 24 points and 15 rebounds, 8 off the offensive glass. The Dragons countered with Laine McGurk who scored 25 points and Amaris Baker getting 22, but in the end it just was not enough for Drexel.

“Obviously, it was a battle,” said Drexel Coach Amy Mallon. “We knew it was going to be against a good team, so I figured it was going to come down to possessions, and it did and didn’t fall for us being on the winning end. I thought the team, our team, battled today, they fought. They showed what they’re made of.”

Dibula scored 14 of her points and 6 rebounds in the two overtime periods. She had all 10 of the Monmouth points in the first overtime and 4 of 6 second overtime points. Off the boards half of the offensive rebounds for Dibula happened in the extra time. The forward scored the last basket of the first overtime and the second.

“We saw that the last time we played them,” said Mallon. “They had some key o (offensive) boards towards the end of the game. You saw that again today. It seemed to come at crucial moments and were the big one’s.”

McGurk answered back for the Dragons scoring 25 points. She had but 4 points before the second half, then found her offense.

“I think her settling in a little bit in the second half, and then finding she had some smaller guards on her,” Mallon said bout McGurk scoring after halftime. “So when we could take advantage of that, she got some good looks again.”

McGurk scored the last nine Drexel points. In regulation she drained a critical three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into the first overtime. At the end of forty minutes Drexel had 12 seconds to extend the game. Guard Julia Garcia Roig let a shot go with 3 seconds on the clock. It missed but Grace O’Neill got the offensive rebound then passed the ball to McGurk who was good on the basket. Little things added up to a lot for O’Neill, McGurk, and the Dragons.

“Those are the things your season is built on. Those are the moments that we have to continue to build on,” Mallon said. “And remember we’re going to have them again.”

What the Numbers Say

O’Neill filled the stat sheet with 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Deja Evans fouled out, but did get 6 points and 9 rebounds. Drexel had only 13 points from players other than Baker and McGurk.

Drexel shot 31.9% while Monmouth made 34.4%. The Hawks put up a 26 – 16 advantage in points in the paint.

GiGi Gamble was the other Hawk in double-figures posting 11 points. Seven of the eight Monmouth players who were on the floor scored at least 3 points, same for rebounds.
