Players of the Week – Kayla Spruill, La Salle who recorded a double-double in points and rebounds over both games of the season for the Explorers. Spruill scored a team-high 16 points and collected 17 rebounds to equal her career-high. Of those rebounds 7 were off the offensive glass. Spruill posted a consistent 16 points against Rider, and pulled down a team-best 14 boards, 6 on offense. Over the two-game homestand Spruill shot 11 of 27 from the field, and was good on 4 of 11 from beyond the arc. She played just over an average of 35 minutes per game.

Games of November 9 – 14, 2021

Drexel (1 – 1, 0 – 0 CAA) – Lost 52 – 50 vs. Marist, Won 63 – 55 vs. Saint Joseph’s

Noteworthy: Tessa Brugler posted a double-double in her first collegiate game scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. With the game tied at 50 Marist converted 2 free throws while Drexel missed two shots at the buzzer. In the city battle the Dragons moved ahead 52 – 33 before holding off a Hawks rally.

Next Game: November 17 vs. La Salle at the DAC

La Salle (1 – 1, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10, 0 – 0 Big Five) – Lost 73 – 70 vs. Coppin State, Won 67 – 58 vs. Rider at the Gola Arena

Noteworthy: Coppin State defeated La Salle for the first time. The La Salle win over Rider ended a three-game losing streak for the Explorers in the series. Jaye Haynes scored a career-high 19 points against Rider.

Next Game: November 17 at Drexel

Penn (1 – 0, 0 – 0 Ivy League, 0 – 0 Big Five) – Won 85 – 42 at Hartford

Noteworthy: The Quakers got out to a big 54 – 16 lead after one half. Kayla Padilla had a game-high 22 points along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocked shots. Mia Lakstagala scored 18 points and also snuffed 3 shots.

Next Game: November 16 vs. Kings at the Palestra

Saint Joseph’s (1 – 1, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10, 0 – 0 Big Five) – Won 84 – 49 vs. UMES, Lost 63 – 55 at Drexel

Noteworthy: In the win over UMES the 84 points scored by the Hawks were the most in one game since the 2017-18 season. The 38-point margin of victory was the largest since New Year’s Eve that season when SJU defeated VCU 79 – 41. SJU won the 4th quarter 20 – 9 at the DAC. Katie Jekot stole the ball a career-high 4 times. Kaliah Henderson tied her collegiate-best scoring 20 points at Drexel.

Next Game: November 17 at Monmouth

Temple (1 – 1, 0 – 0 American, 0 – 0 Big Five) – Won 73 – 53 vs. St. Francis, Lost 70 – 53 at FGCU

Noteworthy: Jelani Thomas scored 20 points in her debut, the first Owls player to do so since Mia Davis. Temple forced 28 Saint Francis turnovers resulting in 26 points. In Florida the Owls fell behind 16 – 8 after one quarter and played uphill the remainder of the game.

Villanova (1 – 1, 0 – 0 Big East, 0 – 0 Big Five) – Lost 59 – 42 vs. Princeton, Lost 88 – 67 at #4 Maryland

Noteworthy: Villanova has made a three-point basket in 550 consecutive games. After falling behind in the second and third quarter the Wildcats scored 22 points in the fourth quarter at College Park.
