Villanova Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship

The NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship bracket was announced today. Villanova earns an at-large bid to the tournament and will play the Vermont Catamounts in the first round. The game is scheduled for November 18 at Vermont. The Catamounts (13 – 4 – 2) get the home game by virtue of being an automatic qualifier as winners of the America East Conference. Villanova (11-7-1) finished in the top four of the Big East Tournament.

The winner of the game faces #4 seed Notre Dame in the second round. The Irish get a first round bye being seeded in the top-sixteen.

The overall #1 seed goes to Oregon State. Staying out west Washington is the #2 seed. Big East Champion Georgetown is the third seed.

Villanova finished the regular season tied for tied for fourth place in the Big East. The Wildcats advanced to the semifinal round of the conference tournament defeating Creighton in the quarterfinal round. In addition to Georgetown and Villanova, Big East members St. John’s and Providence, who finished second and third in the league, also received a bid to the tournament as did Creighton.

Georgetown plays the winner of the Charlotte vs. Georgia State game. Providence goes to Marist. The victor matches up with the defending national champion Marshall. St. John’s meets Ivy League winner Princeton and a chance to go against the #1 seed Oregon State.

The second round dates and sites are to be determined. The final four will be in Cary, North Carolina.
