Penn Wins Third Straight, Temple Continues Streak

Games of November 10th and 11th, 2017

TEMPLE – Overall 5 – 5, 3 – 3 American Athletic Conference

Result – Won 35 – 24 at Cincinnati

Summary – The Temple Owls kept their post-season hopes alive.  The special teams chipped in when Isaiah Wright ran a kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown to give the Owls a 28 – 14 lead in the third quarter.  Wright was named the AAC Special Teams Player of the Week.  Quarterback Frank Nutile had a touchdown pass and a scoring run.  He completed 19 of 30 for 224 yards.  The scoring toss went to Keith Kirkwood.  The Cherry and White take on nationally ranked UCF at the Linc on Saturday.

Next Game – November 18 vs. UCF at the Linc Noon Kickoff

VILLANOVA – Overall 4 – 6, 2 – 5 CAA

Result – Lost 20 – 6 at Rhode Island

Summary –  The offense came from kicker Drew Kresge who had two field goal for the Wildcats.  The game itself was a defensive battle.  The Nova defense gave up 80 rushing yards and linebacker Ed Shockley led the team with 11 tackles.  However, the Wildcats could muster only 1 rushing yard.  Quarterback Jack Schetelich passed for a career-best 170 yards.  The season ends on Saturday with the Battle of the Blue against Delaware.

Next Game – November 18 vs. Delaware at Villanova Stadium 1 PM Kickoff

PENN – Overall 5 – 4, Ivy League 3 – 3

Result – Won 23 – 6 at Harvard

Summary – The chances for the University of Pennsylvania to get a share of the Ivy League title went away, but a three-game winning streak against Harvard did not.  Penn scored on the first play of the game when running back Tre Solomon ran 77 yards for a touchdown.  He ran for a career-high 181 yards on 15 carries.  Wide Receiver Justin Watson caught a 19-yard scoring toss from Will Fischer-Colbrie, his 9th of the season, to set an Ivy League record for consecutive games with a receiving touchdown.  The season concludes when the Red and Blue hosts Cornell.
