Saint Joseph’s Rolls On, Drexel Captures The #2 Seed In CAA, Penn Wins Third Straight

Week of October  19 – 25, 2016 Games

DREXEL 8– 6 – 4 Overall, 4 – 2 – 3 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Delaware at Vidas Field

Summary – The Dragons finished the regular season with a scoreless draw on Senior Day.  Drexel secured the #2 seed in the CAA Tournament and will get a first round bye.  The Dragons outshot the Blue Hens 22 – 11, but no shots crossed the goal line.

Next Game – 11/4 CAA Tournament Semifinal vs. College of Charleston vs. James Madison winner in Boston, MA

LA SALLE 3 – 8 – 3 Overall, 1 – 2 – 3 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 4 – 3 at Richmond, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Saint Louis at McCarthy Stadium

Summary –  Trailing by a 4 – 1 score La Salle scored twice over the last eight minutes at Richmond, but fell one goal short.  The goals were scored by Maci Bower and Deja Davis.  The Explorers had a 24 – 17 edge in shots.  La Salle returned home and played Saint Louis to a scoreless draw.  In the game the Explorers held an 8 – 2 edge in corner kicks.

PENN – 9 – 3 – 2 Overall, 2 – 2 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 at Yale, Won 2 – 0 at Army

Summary – The unbeaten streak for the University of Pennsylvania reached four three games with victories  in New Haven and at West Point.  Emily Sands scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute at Yale, while Olivia Blaber and Cameo Hazlewood got the goals at Army.  Kitty Qu made 5 saves against the Bulldogs, then shutout the Knights in collecting her eighth shutout of the season.  Qu ranks 13th nationally in goals against average.

Next Game – 10/29 vs. Brown at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  14 – 1 – 2 Overall, 7 – 0 – 1 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 2 – 1 vs. Saint Louis, Won 4 – 0 vs. Davidson, both games at Sweeney Field

Summary – The Hawk set a new single-season record for wins at 14 getting two wins this week.  Saint Joe’s took over the top spot in the Atlantic 10 standings with the win against Saint Louis.  They held that position defeating Davidson.  Emily Gingrich scored three goals over the week.  She became the first Hawk player to score 100 career points.  Gingrich stands at 103 points.  SJU extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games.

Next Game – 10/27 at Massachusetts

TEMPLE 3 – 14 – 0 Overall 0 – 7 – 0 American

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. #21 Connecticut

Summary – The Owls gave the nationally ranked Huskies a battle, but fell one goal short.  Stephanie Ribeiro scored for Connecticut on a penalty kick in the 75th minute.  UConn had a 25 – 9 edge in shots, 7 – 4 on goal.  Temple goal keeper Jordan Nash made six saves.

Next Game – 10/27 at East Carolina

VILLANOVA  3 – 14 – 0 Overall, 1 – 7 – 0 Big East 

Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. Marquette at the Higgins Soccer Complex, Lost 1 – 0 at St. John’s

Summary – The loss to Marquette eliminated Villanova from post season competition.  The Wildcats were shutout twice.  Over the week Nova had an equal 29 shots with their opponents.  Emmalee Meyer turned in six saves at St. John’s.  Over the season she had a  2.25 goals against average and a .689 save percentage.

Next Game – 10/28 vs. Seton Hall at the Higgins Sports Complex
