Games for the Week of August 21 – 27

All five of the Philly Division I schools played as the season is in its beginning stages. There were two local rivalry matches as Villanova travelled to North Broad Street for a game with Temple. Saint Joseph’s went to West Philadelphia to go against Drexel.

Overall the Philly teams went 5 – 4 – 2 over the week. Let’s look at the details

Games of the Week Recap

The Drexel Dragons posted a 2 – 0 record defeating UMBC 2 – 0 at home. Annalena O’Reilly scored both goals in the 23rd and 84th minute, her first of the season. O’Reilly scored again in Drexel’s 3 – 0 win over Saint Joseph’s. This is their first-ever win over Saint Joe’s. Delaney Lappin and Casey Touey had the other two goals for the Dragons. Lappin and Touey also registered an assist while Meg Tate got the other helper. The Dragons had an 8 – 1 shots on goal advantage.

The University of Pennsylvania began their season and starts off 2 – 0. The kickoff was a thriller as Penn won 1 – 0 over American U. on a penalty kick goal by Lauren Teuschl in the 64th minute. It was her first game-winner and penalty-kick goal. In a 1 – 0 win over Delaware Isobel Glass found the back of the net for the Red and Blue in the 60th minute. Glass had 3 shots on goal. Goalie Laurence Gladu now has 9 career shutouts in the net. The last three wins for Penn have been via the shutout route.

The Villanova Wildcats recorded their second clean slate of the season beating Temple 3 – 0. Makayla Stadler got 2 goals for a career-best 4 point game. Stadler had the first and last goal in the game. Olivia Packer scored the other Villanova goal in the 17th minute. Nova had an 11 – 4 advantage in shots on goal.

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks saw a 0 – 1 – 1 record over the week. Saint Joe’s played Lehigh to a 1 – 1 draw. Nicole Everard scored her first collegiate-goal at 33:35 to give the Hawks a lead. Lehigh answered in the 77th minute. Saint Joe’s lost to Drexel 3 – 0 at Vidas Field. Goalie Katie Cappelletti recorded a game-high 5 saves to give her 9 for the week.

The Temple Owls also went 0 – 1 – 1 tying Rider 0 – 0 at home. The Owls allowed 7 shots and goal keeper Tamsin Bynoe got her first career shutout. Beky Myers got off 3 shots. Bynoe made 8 saves in the 3 – 0 loss to Villanova.

The La Salle Explorers were defeated in both of their games. Delaware came to 20th and Olney and took home a 2 – 1 win. Haley Gschrey scored her second goal of the season in the 80th minute. Goalie Michela Auguadro made 4 saves. La Salle fell 5 – 0 at Princeton. The Explorers were outshot 26 – 3, and 10 – 0 in shots on goal.

La Salle 1 – 3 next game August 31 vs. Seton Hall at McCarthy Stadium

Penn 2 – 0 next game August 31 at St. John’s

Temple 0 – 3 – 1 next game August 31 vs. Lehigh at the Temple Sports Complex

Villanova 2 – 0 – 1 next game August 31 at Bucknell
