Saint Joseph’s Earns Two Draws in Atlantic 10 Play, Villanova Gets Initial 2022 Win
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks began play in the Atlantic 10. The Hawks came away with two draws. The home game against Richmond saw neither team score a goal. On the bluffs in Western Pennsylvania Saint Joe’s and Duquesne tied at 2 where the Hawks got goals from Jiselle Daniels and Marin Boyle scored within two minutes of each other in the 50th and 52nd minute….The Villanova Wildcats got win number one of the season downing Colgate 1 – 0 on the road. It was a defensive game where the Wildcats had 2 shots on goal compared to one for Colgate. Maddie Fried scored with just 35 seconds remaining in the game….In California the University of Pennsylvania came back with a tie and a loss. Isoble Glass scored in the 60th minute to tie St. Mary’s who took the lead in the 10th minute. Cal handed Penn their first loss of the season 3 – 0 with all goals coming in the second half….The Temple Owls started league play falling 1 – 0 at Tulsa. It was the final game of the six-game road swing for the Owls….It was a tough week for the La Salle Explorers who lost 4 – 1 to #12 Saint Louis at home, then 1 – 0 on the road at Loyola. Emily Banashefski scored the lone Explorers goal of the week against the Billikens at 12:37 for a 1 – 0 lead….The Drexel Dragons were idle.
Drexel returns to the pitch with a trip to Charleston in the CAA. Villanova starts Big East competition with a game at Seton Hall. The rest of the Philly schools are home to play league games. La Salle hosts George Washington University and Saint Joseph’s plays UMass on City Avenue. Penn has an Ivy League game in West Philadelphia against Harvard. Temple welcomes SMU to North Broad Street in an American game.
