Week of August 30 – September 6, 2016 Games

Saint Joseph’s Sweeps Week As Emily Gingrich Sets School Records, Temple In Two 1 – 0 Games, Penn Gets First Win Of The Season

DREXEL 3 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Northern Colorado, Lost 5 – 0 at Colorado

Summary – The two game holiday road trip concluded being winless in the Rockies.  Drexel was unable to get a goal in each contest.  The Dragons outshot Northern Colorado by a 16 – 9 margin, but the Bears scored in the 59th minute.  The Colorado Buffaloes netted their first goal in the 10th minute and took a 3 – 0 lead at halftime en route to the victory.

Next Game – 9/8 vs. Fairfield at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 2 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 4 – 3 vs. Northeastern at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – The Explorers rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game, but fell when the Huskies Hannah Rosenblatt put the ball inside the far post in the 84th minute.  Deja Davis tied the game for La Salle in the 66th minute when her shot hit the crossbar and deflected across the goal line.  Danielle Marx and Maci Bower scored the other goals for the Explorers.

Next Game – 9/11 at Penn State, the defending National Champion

PENN – 1 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 5 – 0 vs. Robert Morris at Rhodes Field

Summary – The Quakers leveled their season record by easily defeating the Patriots of Robert Morris.  The Red and Blue scored 3 goals in the first nine minutes of play.  Emma Loving led Penn with two goals, and Emily Sands, Paige Lombard, and Victoria Metelkine added one score each.  The Quakers held a 21 – 4 edge in shots.

Next Game – 9/9 vs. Lafayette at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 3 – 1 vs. Towson, Won 2 – 1 vs. Northeastern both games at Sweeney Field

Summary – It was a big weekend for senior midfielder Emily Gingrich who scored twice against Northeastern to set a program record for career goals with 35 and points at 84.  The record breaking goal came in the 2nd minute of play.  Later in the game Gingrich scored the game winner in the 82nd minute to give her the record in points.  Against Towson, Dakota Brooks netted two goals.

Next Game – 9/9 vs. Villanova at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 2 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 American

Results – Won 1 – 0 (OT) at Rider, Lost  1 – 0 vs. Towson at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – The Owls played a pair of 1 – 0 games during the week.  At Rider Gabriella McKeown picked up a loose ball 20 yards out and sent it into the bottom right corner.  That goal came in the 92nd minute.  Goal Keeper Jordan Nash recorded her second shutout of the season.  At the Temple Sports Complex it was Towson who got the only score of the game from Natalia Pinkney in the 51st minute.  The Owls had a 13- 8 edge in shots.

Next Game – 9/9 at Princeton

VILLANOVA 1 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 5 – 0 vs. #9/24 Minnesota, Lost 2 – 0 vs. #8 North Carolina in the Duke Tournament

Summary – The Wildcats faced two nationally ranked opponents in the Duke Tournament in Durham, NC.  Villanova was shutout in both games.  In the game against eighth ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, the Wildcats battled to a scoreless draw until the 71st minute when Annie Kingman found the back of the net.  Villanova freshman Conner Higgins and Claire Fell were named to the Duke Nike Classic All-Tournament Team.
