Villanova Ends The Season With A Thriller, Saint Joseph’s Finishes With Most Goals In A Game, Penn Stuns West Virginia In Overtime

Week of November 3 – November 9, 2015

DREXEL 3 – 15 – 1 Overall, 2 – 6 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 4 – 0 at Princeton

Summary –  The Dragons concluded their season with a 4 – 0 loss against the Tigers who scored twice in the 25th minute to take control.  Princeton had a 17 – 8 advantage on shots.  Colin McGlynn finished the season as the Drexel scoring leader with 4 goals and 9 points.

PENN – 3 – 10 – 2 Overall, 1 – 4 –  1 Ivy League

ResultsWon 3 – 2 (2 OT) at West Virginia, Lost 2 – 0 vs. Princeton at Rhodes Field

Summary –  A goal by Sam Wancowicz in the second overtime period lifted the Quakers to a win in Morgantown.  It was the second score of the game for Wancowicz who scored the tying goal in the 60th minute.  The University of Pennsylvania also got a goal from Alec Neumann.  West Virginia scored the first two goals of the game, but Penn was able to overcome the deficit.  The Red and Blue could not keep the momentum going as they fell to Ivy League rival Princeton at the Homecoming game.  The Tigers scored twice within 3 minutes of the first half to establish control.  Penn was outshot 20 – 8.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 – 12 – 2 Overall, 2 – 5 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 4 – 1 vs. St. Bonaventure at Sweeney Field

Summary – The Hawks ended the season with their biggest offensive outburst of the season.  Tim Lazorko scored twice in the match.  Saint Joe’s also got goals from Matt Crawford and Mori Diane.  Sophomore goal keeper Greg O’Connell made his collegiate debut with 4 saves.  The Bonnies scored with 43 seconds to play.

Next Game – 2016 Season Opener

TEMPLE 10 – 7 – 2 Overall, 2 – 6 – 0 AAC

Results –  Lost 4 – 0 at Connecticut in AAC Quarterfinal

Summary – The season ended for the Owls in Storrs, CT. losing to the Huskies 4 – 0.  Three goals came in the second half.  UConn outshot Temple 11 – 5 and had a 5 – 1 edge in corner kicks.  Jorge Gomez-Sanchez had 2 shots, both on goal, to lead the Cherry and White.  He is currently tied for fifth for most goals scored in a single season (13) and tied for sixth for single-season points with 31.

Next Game – 2016 Season Opener

VILLANOVA 9 – 8 – 0 Overall, 4 – 5 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 3 – 2 (OT) at Seton Hall

Summary –  The Wildcats scored twice in the final 15 minutes of regulation, then got the game-winner in the 96th minute to cap the comeback.  Sean Sheridan got the deciding goal off a throw into the box.  Sheridan scored the first Villanova goal off a header that cut the gap to 2 – 1 in the 77th minute.  Max Kroschwitz shot the ball from the right side to tie the game in the 78th minute.  The Wildcats goals came within 59 seconds of one another.  The win was not enough to make the Big East Tournament, but was a pleasant end to the season.
