PHILLY COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER WEEK IN REVIEW

The men’s soccer season is getting started for all of the Philadelphia Division I schools. The Villanova Wildcats are off to the fast start with not only a 3 – 0 record, the Cats have yet to surrender a goal. Goalie Carson Williams has compiled a 270-minute scoreless streak, and Lyam MacKinnon has 5 assists so far this year. Villanova registered a 1 – 0 win over Soccer Six rival Temple on the Main Line. The University of Pennsylvania started their campaign defeating Monmouth 2 – 0. Penn did not allow a shot on goal, and scores by Kai Lammers and Joey Bhangdia within the first 17 minutes proved to be the difference. La Salle got on the plus side of the record with a win over Robert Morris where Nigel Buckley scored both Explorer goals. Saint Joseph’s won and lost 1 – 0 decisions. Goalie Joseph Boehm saved 10 shots in the loss to Fairfield. Meanwhile Temple and Drexel are seeking their initial won of the season. The Owls gave up one goal in two of their losses. Drexel suffered their third consecutive 2 – 1 defeat.

Summary – This was the third consecutive 2 – 1 loss for the Dragons who are seeking their first win.

Results – Lost 3 – 0 at St. Francis Brooklyn Won 3 – 1 vs. Robert Morris
Summary – Nigel Buckley scored the two goals in the win over Robert Morris.

Results – Won 2 – 0 at Monmouth
Summary – Brandon Bartel had his first assist of the season. He led the Ivy League with 6 assists last year.

Summary – Ritchie Barry scored in the 3rd minute in the win over LIU.

Summary – The Owls have given up 1 goal in two of their games, however Temple has yet to score this season.
