James Bell averaged 21 points in the three wins for the Wildcats. The senior guard scored 19 points making 5 of 10 three-pointers in Villanova’s Big Five championship clincher at Temple. Bell was especially hot in the second half of games. He scored 10 of his 16 against Georgetown and 21 of a total of 27 points against Xavier in the second half.
Frantz Massenat averaged over 22 points and 6 assists per game over the week including a career-high 32 points against Hofstra. Massenat is in the Top-Ten in scoring at Drexel with 1.513 career-points.
Halil Kanacevic averaged 13 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the two wins for Saint Joseph’s. He scored a team-high 18 points in the upset over nationally ranked Massachusetts.

LA SALLE 11 – 6 Overall, 3 – 0 Atlantic 10, 2 – 1 Big Five
Results – Lost 69 – 47 at George Washington, Won 71 – 63 vs. Duquesne at the Gola Arena
Summary –
George Washington 69 La Salle 47 – Poor shooting doomed the Explorers making just 27.3% from the floor and 22.1% from beyond the arc. Tyreek Duren led La Salle with 22 points, 7 of 13 field goals and 4 of 6 from distance.
La Salle 71 Duquesne 63 – The Explorers snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. Center Steve Zack recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Tyreek Duren added 13 points, 10 in the second half.

PENN 4 – 13 Overall, 1 – 2 Ivy League, 0 – 4 Big Five
Results – Lost 67 – 58 at Dartmouth, Lost 80 – 50 at Harvard
Summary –
Dartmouth 67 Penn 58 – The Red and Blue held a 45 – 42 lead in the second half before Dartmouth went on a 13 – 0 run midway through the second half to take the lead, and never looked back. Alex Mitola scored 23 points, all in the second half for the Big Green. Fran Dougherty led Penn with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Miles Jackson-Cartwright scored 13 points.
Harvard 80 Penn 50 – The Quakers held an 18 – 15 lead in the first half. Harvard answered by scoring the next 14 points in the midst of a 29 – 5 run that gave the Crimson control of the game. Tony Hicks led Penn with 13 points. Darien Nelson-Henry and Miles Jackson-Cartwright had 10 points each. Lauren Rivard of Harvard led all scorers with 22 points.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 15 – 6 Overall, 5 – 2 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five
Result – Won 60 – 57 at Dayton, Won 73 – 68 vs. #21/19 Massachusetts at the Hagan Arena
Summary –
Saint Joseph’s 60 Dayton 57 – Langston Galloway hit a fade-away three pointer with 1.8 seconds left to lift the Hawks to the victory. Galloway scored 12 points in the game. Chris Wilson scored a team-high 15 points. Halil Kanacevic pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 8 points. In the second half Kanacevic scored the 1,000th point in his career.
Saint Joseph’s 73 #21/19 Massachusetts 68 – The Hawks had a 17 point lead that the Minutemen erased late in the game. With the score tied at 68 Saint Joe’s guard Chris Wilson made two free throws with 30 seconds to play to give the Hawks the lead. Papa Ndao and Langston Galloway made free throws to give the Hawks the final margin of victory. Halil Kanacevic scored a team-high 18 points. Ronald Roberts scored 17 and DeAndre Bembry added 13 points. Derrick Gordon of UMass scored a game-high 21 points.

TEMPLE 6 – 14 Overall, 1 – 7 American, 2 – 2 Big Five
Results – Won 88 – 82 vs. Rutgers, Lost 90 – 74 vs. #9 Villanova at the Liacouris Center
Summary –
Temple 88 Rutgers 82 – The Owls won their first American Athletic Conference game defeating the Scarlet Knights. With the win Temple also snapped a program longest 8 game losing streak. The Cherry and White made 8 consecutive free throws down the stretch to close out the game. Guards Will Cummings and Dalton Pepper led Temple in scoring with 21 and 20 points in the contest.
#9 Villanova 90 Temple 74 – The Wildcats captured the Big Five championship with the victory. Villanova was able to do so hitting 52.5% of their field goal attempts while holding Temple to 36.2%. The good shooting allowed Villanova to take a 20-point lead in the second half. Will Cummings scored a game-high 24 points for the Owls. Quenton DeCosey added 18 points. Center Anthony Lee recorded his 9th double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dalton Pepper had 11 points.

#6 VILLANOVA 20 – 2 Overall, 8 – 1 Big East, 4 – 0 Big Five
Results – Won 65 – 60 at Georgetown, Won 90 – 74 at Temple, Won 81 – 58 vs. Xavier at the Pavilion
Summary –
#9 Villanova 65 Georgetown 60 – James Bell scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half to help the Wildcats hold off the Hoyas. JayVaughn Pinkston scored 12 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Fellow front-court mate Daniel Ochefu also scored 12 points.
#9 Villanova 90 Tempe 74 – The Wildcats captured the Big Five championship with the victory. Villanova was able to do so hitting 52.5% of their field goal attempts while holding Temple to
36.2%. The good shooting allowed Villanova to take a 20-point lead in the second half. James Bell made 5 of 10 three-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points. JayVaughn Pinkston scored 13 points. Three other Wildcat players reached double-figures. Darrun Hilliard scored 12 points while Daniel Ochefu had 11, and Dylan Ennis added 10 points.
#6 Villanova 81 Xavier 58 – Guards James Bell and Darrun Hilliard sparked a 53-point second half to lift the Wildcats to the victory. Bell scored 27 points, 21 of those came in the second half. Hilliard had 15 of his 17 points in the latter half. Villanova out-scored Xavier 53 – 36 in the half where the Wildcats shot 60% (21 – 35) from the field, 7 of 15 from 3-point land. Bell and JayVaughn Pinkston pulled down 8 rebounds each.

DREXEL 12 – 10 Overall, 4 – 5 CAA
Results – Won 77 – 74 at Hofstra, Lost 75 – 73 at Towson, Won 61 – 50 vs. UNCW at the DAC
Summary –
Hofstra 77 Drexel 74 – Frantz Massenat scored a career-high 32 points and handed out 9 assists leading the Dragons to the victory. Massenat gave Drexel their final lead with a layup breaking a 66-all tie. The senior passed Phil Goss for 11th place in career scoring at Drexel. Chris Fouch added 19 points. The win ended a two game losing streak for the Dragons.
Towson 75 Drexel 73 – Jerrelle Benimon scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, and Towson shot 67% in the second half to defeat Drexel. Frantz Massenat led the Dragons with 18 points which moved him into the Top-Ten in career points with 1.498. Tavon Allen scored 17 points while Kazembe Abif posted a career-high 12 points. Dartaye Ruffin pulled down 10 rebounds which moved him into 9th place on the school’s career rebounding list.
Drexel 61 UNCW 50 – Defense was the key for the Dragons as they held the Seahawks to just 36% shooting (20 – 56), 33% in the second half. The 50 points scored by UNCW was the fewest points Drexel has given up this season. Tavon Allen led the Dragons with 17 points. Chris Fouch had 16 points. Frantz Massenat scored 15 points and had 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Addison Spruill was the only UNCW player in double figures scoring a game-high 22 points.
