Penn’s Kalijah Terilli Shutout Streak Reaches 6 Games, LaSalle’s Kelsey Haycook Gets A Second Half Hat Trick, SJU Wins In OT

Week of October 16 – 23, 2013 Games

DREXEL 5 – 10 – 1 Overall, 1 – 5 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Delaware

Summary –

Delaware 1 Drexel 0 – In an even battle the teams went into halftime tied at zero with 5 shots each.  Delaware got the deciding goal at 65:13 on a shot by Emily Market.  The Blue Hens outshot the Dragons 12 – 7.  Drexel junior goal keeper Eve Badana recorded 4 saves.

Next Game – 10/25 at College of Charleston

LA SALLE 10 – 3 – 2 Overall, 2 – 1 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 6 – 0 vs. Saint Joseph’s at McCarthy Stadium

Summary –

LaSalle 6 Saint Joseph’s 0 – Junior forward Kelsey Haycook delivered a second half hat trick in addition to 2 first half assists leading LaSalle past cross-town rival and conference foe Saint Joseph’s.  Junior midfielder Anna Dolhansky scored two goals and freshman Deja Davis had the other Explorer tally.  Haycook has 13 goals this season and was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week. Davis was named the conference Co-Rookie of the Week.   LaSalle outshot SJU 15 – 8.  Hawks senior goal keeper Lauren Jancuska recorded a game-high 3 saves.

Next Game – 10/25 at Saint Bonaventure

PENN – 10 – 1 – 3 Overall, 3 – 1 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 vs. Dartmouth, Won 2 – 0 at NJIT

Summary –

Penn 1 Dartmouth 0 – A goal by junior forward Megan York in the 57th minute proved to be the difference as Penn got its third league win defeating the Big Green of Dartmouth.  The Red and Blue are a half-game behind league leading Harvard in the Ivy League standings.  Sophomore goal keeper Kalijah Terilli recorded her fifth consecutive shutout, 10th overall.  She got help from junior back Lauren Hammond who blocked a point-blank shot heading toward the back of the net.  The Quakers have won 10 consecutive home matches.Kalijah Terilli

Penn 2 NJIT 0 – It was a sixth straight shutout for Terilli, her 11th overall.  Terilli did not need to make a   save as none of the 3 NJIT shots were on goal.  The Red and Blue got goals from sophomore Erin Molokai and senior Laura Oliver, the first of the season for both players.

Next Game – 10/26 vs. Yale at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S 6 –6 – 3 Overall, 2 – 2 – 1 Atlantic 10

Result – Lost 6 – 0 at LaSalle, Won 2 – 1 (OT) vs. Rhode Island at Sweeney Field

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 2 Rhode Island 1 (OT) – The Hawks bounced back from the loss at LaSalle winning on an overtime goal by senior forward Mo Hawkins.  The deciding goal came at the 2:18 mark of the extra period.  SJU trailed by a goal with just under 5 minutes remaining in regulation.  A goal by freshman midfielder Emily Gingrich tied the score to send the game into overtime.  Gingrich was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week.  Rhode Island outshot Saint Joe’s 16 – 13.  Hawks senior goal keeper Lauren Jancuska made 3 saves.

Next Game – 10/27 at Saint Bonaventure

TEMPLE 6 – 8 – 9 Overall, 1 – 6 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 3 – 1 vs. Louisville, Lost 2 – 1 vs. Cincinnati both at the Ambler Sports Complex

Summary –

Louisville 3 Temple 1 – The Owls took on the conference leader Louisville Cardinals in Ambler.  The Cardinals got off to a 3 goal lead and held off Temple winning 3 – 1.  Freshman midfielder Elaine Byerley scored the lone goal for the Owls, and sophomore goal keeper Shauni Kerkhoff made 8 Owls saves.  Louisville outshot Temple 26- 6, 14- 1 in the initial 45 minutes in which the Cardinals scored their 3 goals.

Cincinnati 2 Temple 1 – The Owls fell behind by two goals in the second half.  Temple made a charge late getting a goal from junior Alyssa Kirk with 1:37 remaining, but could not come up with the equalizer.  Sophomore goal keeper Shauni Kerkhoff recorded 8 saves facing 15 Bearcat shots.

Next Game – 10/24 at Memphis

VILLANOVA 6 – 7 – 3 Overall, 3 – 3 – 1 Big East

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Creighton at the West Campus Soccer Complex, Lost 5 – 0 at Seton Hall

Summary –

Villanova 2 Creighton 0 – Sophomore Emily Damstrom was efficient for Villanova scoring two goals on two shots leading the team past Creighton.  The win puts Villanova in sole possession of fourth place and the final spot for the Big East tournament.

Seton Hall 5 Villanova 0 – The Wildcats played one player down from the 17th minute on.  Seton Hall scored their first goal at 31:31, and then scored again 15 seconds later.  It created a hill too steep to climb for Villanova.  The Pirates had a 19 – 5 edge in shots.
