Hungry Hawks Figure Out How to Win Over St. Bonaventure

The Hawks Win Their Third In A Row 68 – 64 Over the Bonnies

PHILADELPHIA, PA 1/14/2026 –

It came down to the last minute which is called a possession game, Whoever executes in their last possession or two would get the win. It was the Saint Joseph’s Hawks who did to win another Atlantic 10 game 68 – 64 over St. Bonaventure. One Hawk that played a huge role in the victory is Jaiden Glover-Toscano. He would provide the winning points on a traditional three-point play that put St. Joe’s ahead by a point with 33.6 seconds remaining. On the next possession Glover-Toscano blocked a three-point attempt by Bonnies guard Darryl Simmons II. SJU took a 68 – 64 victory at the Hagan Arena.

“I was just trying to win,” Glover-Toscano simply said about his performance. “I was hungry, the whole team was hungry.”

“I think these guys have figured out a way down the stretch of these games what needs to be done finishing games,” said Saint Joseph’s Coach Steve Donahue.

The Will to Win Showed at the End

The Hawks finished the game on an 8 – 0 run wiping out a 64 – 60 Bonnies lead with just over two and a half minutes to play. Hawks guard Dasear Haskins drained a three-pointer to bring his team to within a point. Later Haskins would rebound the blocked shot by Glover-Toscano giving SJU control of the game.

It was a game where Saint Joseph’s shot the ball better in the first half 51.9% to 33.3% for St. Bonaventure. The script flipped in the second half where the Bonnies outshot the Hawks 41.2% to 32.1%. The lead changed four times in the second half and was tied four times. It would take resilience and the home team showed it.

“Great resilience,” said Donahue. “Whatever the situation calls for, figure it out and let’s compete. We got off to a great start, and then we couldn’t make a shot, and they made a great run. That was our challenge, how are we going to react.”

The SJU Winning Streak is at 3 Games

The wins are all in conference which gives St. Joe’s a 3 – 2 record in the Atlantic 10. The winning streak started with a team meeting. The players according to Simpson, told the coaches to keep doing what they’re doing and stay on them, no matter if they did well on not. And keep the positive stuff too.

The result is a three-game winning streak in the league.

“We needed it deep down in our soul, our hearts and everything,” said Simpson. “We looked at ourselves in the mirror, and when we looked at ourselves in the mirror, we saw something we didn’t like. So we were able to look at each other and just figure it out.”

What the Numbers Say

For the Bonnies Frank Mitchell scored 22 points, 20 in the first half, 18 consecutive. He would pull down a team-high 8 rebounds. Cayden Charles added 17 points and Simmons contributed 14. Dasonte Bowen scored 8 points and dished 8 assists. St. Bonaventure won the rebound battle 40 – 35.

Glover-Toscano scored a game-high 23 points making 8 of 11 from the floor and 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Haskins scored16 points and and grabbed 11 rebounds, tying his season-high, posting a double-double in two of his last three-games. Simpson scored 11 points and handed out a team-high 7 assists. The Hawks turned the ball over a mere two times in the second half.

The Hawks (11 – 7, 3 – 2) travel south for the next game on Monday at VCU.
