October 18, 2025 –

Pat McQuaide made great use of his first half playing time as the Villanova Wildcats defeated the Hampton Pirates 56 – 14 at Villanova Stadium. All six Nova possessions in the opening 30 minutes resulted in touchdowns, and the defense contributed a score.

“I did not anticipate the first half like that, but I was pleased to see it,” said Villanova Coach Mark Ferrante.

“We got off to slow starts. So the challenge to the guys this week was, let’s see if we can get off to a faster start. And we did.”

McQuaide threw a career-high five scoring tosses playing just the first half for the Wildcats took a 49 – 0 lead into halftime. For the game McQuaide was efficient as he completed 10 passes where half of them found the endzone. McQuaide started the scoring on the first drive of the game. He ended that possession with a one-yard scoring plunge.

The touchdown passes went to Chris Colby, a 65-yard catch and run in the next possession, then hit Luke Colella from 34-yards out. Just before halftime scoring receptions went to Antonio Johnson and Sean Brodnik.

“I think it is a combination of the work those guys have done,” McQuaide said giving credit to his teammates. “It’s a testament to how hard they work and don’t care about results. They just care about winning.”

The defense added a score when Obinna Nwobodo took a fumble recovery to the house from 53-yards away. It was his first-career forced fumble, fumble recovery, and touchdown. Nova last had a fumble recovery returned for a score when Rob Rolle did so with a 99-yarder against Maine in 2017.

“That was insane, something I visualized for a long time now,” said an enthusiastic Nwobodo about scoring his first touchdown. “So to actually be in that position was crazy. That’s a way to do something in your six year class.”

He was joined by Brodnik, Eli Smith, and Colby in scoring their first career touchdown.

Villanova got a fourth quarter score when Smith had a 15-yard scoring run.

Hampton running back Earl Woods III concluded the day with a 66-yard run for a touchdown. He had 7 carries for 102 yards.
