Players of the Week – Maddy Siegrist, Villanova and Keishana Washington, Drexel

Maddy Siegrist

Siegrist totaled 53 points in the weekend series giving her 1,450 points in her career. She places 9th on the Villanova all-time scoring list. Against Butler the forward scored 23 points. Against Xavier Siegrist scored 30 points, her 12th career thirty-point game, the fourth of the season. Siegrist made 20 of 38 field goa attempts, 7 of 15 from beyond the arc, and converted 6 of 8 form the charity stripe. She added 14 rebounds and 5 steals.

Washington scored a total of 51 points over the road trip. She made 19 of 34 from the field and 5 of 9 from three-point land. In the double overtime win at William & Mary Washington set a career-high scoring 40 points. Drexel scored 17 points in the second overtime period, and Washington accounted for 13 of those points. This was the first 40-point game for Drexel since Gabriela Marginean had 40 against Old Dominion in 2009. The outburst was the second highest total in this CAA season.

Games of January 24- 30, 2022

Drexel (16 – 2, 8 – 0 CAA) – Won 72 – 60 at Elon, Won 75 – 67 (2 OT) at William & Mary

Keishana Washington

Noteworthy – The Dragons are on a 13-game winning streak, and had to survive double overtime in the win at William & Mary.  Keishana Washington scored a career-high 40 points. Mariah Leonard posted a double-double getting 10 points and 11 rebounds. At Elon Tessa Brugler had a career-high 20 points and added 13 rebounds, and Hannah Nihill contributed 21 points. Drexel was down 10 points in the second quarter, but mounted a comeback scoring 28 third quarter points. It was the most points scored in one quarter this season for the Dragons.

Next Game: February 4 vs. UNCW at the DAC

La Salle (11 – 8, 4 – 3 Atlantic 10, 2 – 1 Big Five) – Lost 61 – 57 at St. Bonaventure, Lost 67 – 48 at Duquesne

Noteworthy: The Explorers lost twice over the road trip. St. Bonaventure closed the game with a 10 – 0 run over the last two and a half minutes, and that snapped a three-game winning streak for La Salle. Kayla Spruill scored 22 points, her fifth twenty-point game this season. Gabby Crawford pulled down 10 rebounds, then followed that with 21 points off the bench at Duquesne.

Next Game: February 2 vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Gola Arena

Penn (7 – 11, 2 – 4 Ivy League, 0 – 3 Big Five) – Lost 61 – 56 at Columbia, Lost 70 – 63 vs. Harvard

Noteworthy: It was a tough Ivy week for the University of Pennsylvania losing twice in close games. Mia Lakstigala contributed a career-high 18 points in New York. Kayla Padilla added 14 points. Hosting Harvard, Penn held the lead until the 4:42 mark. Kayla Padilla scored 20 points and Jordan Obi added 17. Kennedy Suttle took down 22 rebounds over the week.

Next Game: February 4 vs. Columbia at the Palestra

Saint Joseph’s (6 – 12, 2 – 4 Atlantic 10, 2 – 2 Big Five) – Lost 55 – 35 at Fordham, Lost 74 – 48 vs. UMass

Noteworthy: The Hawks fell twice over the week. Talya Brugler scored in double-figures in each game posting 11 points. Gabby Smalls also had 11 in the UMass game.

Next Game: February 2 at La Salle

Temple (9 – 8, 4 – 2 American, 1 – 1 Big Five) – Won 68 – 64 vs. Cincinnati, Lost 64 – 61 at Memphis

Noteworthy: The Owls erased a 15-point deficit against the Bearcats to win. Mia Davis had a team-high 22 points, and 12 of those came from the free throw line. Jasha Clinton added 14 points, and Candace Parea chipped in with 10 points. At Memphis Davis was the scoring leader for Temple with 24 points, and she took down a team-high 11 rebounds. Aniya Gourdine scored 10 points, had 6 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists. Memphis took control of the game winning the second quarter 24 – 11.

Next Game: January 31 at UCF

Villanova (13 – 6, 7 – 3 Big East, 3 – 1 Big Five) – Won 59 – 44 vs. Butler, Won 82 – 57 vs. Xavier

Noteworthy: Villanova posted a weekend Big East sweep and won their last 8 home games. Overall, the Wildcats posted wins in 10 of their last 11 games. Lucy Olsen scored 10 points against Butler. In the win over Xavier, the 82 points scored represents the most points scored by Nova this season. Lior Garzon scored 23 points and tied her career-high with 5 made three-pointers. Maddy Siegrist totaled 53 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 steals.
