April 10, 2021 –
The La Salle Explorers still had hopes of making the Atlantic 10 Tournament in men’s soccer, but a season ending 2 – 1 loss to UMass ended those hopes. The Explorers finish the season with a 5 – 5 – 1 record overall and posted a 2 – 3 – 1 conference record.
Massachusetts took a 2 – 0 lead into the 60th minute. La Salle fought back scoring the proximity goal two and a half minutes later off the foot of forward Omari Cotterell at the 62:24 mark. The Explorers had 7 more shots, 3 on goal after the goal, but none went past UMass goal keeper Marvyn Dorchin who made 4 saves in the game.
Cotterell recorded 3 shots. Forward Junior Nare had 4 shots. Minutemen forward Alec Hughes and defenseman Nathaniel Cardoza put the ball in the back of the net.
Over the season Cotterell was the leading scorer for the team scoring 4 goals and was the team-leader with 9 points. He assisted once. Junior had 3 goals and 2 assists for 8 points. Goalie Brett Werner gave up 10 goals and saved 20 shots for a .667 save percentage. His record this season was 4 – 3 – 1.
The Atlantic 10 Tournament will have four teams participating with three division winners and a wild card team. UMass is in the mix for a berth.
