16th Ranked Penn Unbeaten Streak is 10 Games, Drexel Ties their 33rd Street Neighbors
The eight-game winning streak for the University of Pennsylvania came to an end via a 1 – 1 tie at Drexel. The Quakers still have a ten-game unbeaten streak going as they rebounded with a 1 – 0 victory at Brown. Leo Burney evened the game at Drexel with a goal in the 71st minute 6:05 after the hosts took the lead. At Brown in a defensive battle Stas Korzeniowski got the ball over the line at the 33:35 mark, the only goal in a game where each time had one shot on goal….In the Battle of 33rd Street, men’s soccer edition, the Drexel Dragons took the lead in the 65th minute when Cesar Banacloy scored. The Dragons got a draw in the next game at 2 – 2 with Hofstra in a CAA game. Drexel remains in 4th place in the conference. Vaccaro Giancarlo scored in the 75th minute to even the game….The Saint Joseph’s Hawks posted a win and a tie. The scoreless draw came at Loyola (MD), the eighth tie of the season extending the number of most even games in a single season in program history. The Hawks came back winning 3 – 0 at home over the Bonnies of Saint Bonaventure. Garrett Lyons got a goal and an assist in the Bonaventure game. Kenyatta Collins and Omry Perel also netted goals….The Temple Owls played well this week getting a 2 – 0 win over Stony Brook for their second straight victory. The Cherry and White followed with a strong effort against #22/9 Tulsa. The Owls fell 3 – 2 when Alex Meinhard scored on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. The game featured two ties and two lead changes. George Medill and Yann Kouemi posted the Temple goals. In the victory over Stoney Brook Fabian Grant got the first goal 13 seconds into the game. Sawyer Koza scored the insurance goal at 25:50….The La Salle Explorers dropped their only game of the week 1 – 0 at George Washington University. The Explorers fell behind the Colonials in the standings for 8th place. La Salle is one-point behind for that last playoff spot with one more conference game left to play….The Villanova Wildcats dropped two one-goal games in the Big East falling 1- 0 to UConn and 2 – 1 at Seton Hall. Viktor Benediktsson got a tying score against Seton Hall. James Boote scored the game-winner for the Pirates 3:16 later….
The home games next week feature all non-conference matches. Villanova hosts Navy and La Salle entertains Columbia. Penn meets Harvard in Boston. Saint Joseph’s travels to Saint Louis. Temple goes to Alabama to face UAB. Drexel goes to Lehigh in a rescheduled game.

Summary – Josh Dunbar got his first goal in the 16th minute. Giancarlo also recorded goal number one for the season.

LA SALLE 3 – 8 – 4 Overall, 2 – 3 – 2 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 1 – 0 at George Washington University
Summary – La Salle outshot GWU 22 – 19 and 7 – 6 in shots requiring a save. The Colonials got the game winner by Oscar Haynes Brown on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

Summary – Ben Stitz assisted on the Burney goal at Drexel. He recorded at least one-point in his previous 9 games.

Results – Tied 0 – 0 at Loyola (MD), Won 3 – 0 vs. Saint Bonaventure
Summary – Saint Joe’s is tied for 4th place in the Atlantic 10 with 10 points along with Rhode Island and VCU. By finishing fourth the Hawks can host a tournament game in the first round. Luis Ludosan turned in his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Stony Brook, Lost 3 -2 vs. #22/9 Tulsa
Summary – Goalie Eoin Gawronski had his 7th career shutout. Temple was close to Tulsa in shots trailing 12 – 5 and 6 – 5 in shots on goal.

VILLANOVA 5 – 8 – 2 Overall, 2 – 6 – 1 Big East
Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. UConn, Lost 2 – 1 at Seton Hall
Summary – Eli Conway got the Huskies tally off a rebound in the 76th minute. Balthi Saunders got off a team-high 4 shots at Seton Hall. Over the week the Wildcats were outshot 31 – 20 and 10 – 9 in shots on goal.
