Temple Bowl Eligible for the Sixth Straight Season, Villanova Breaks Three-Game Skid, Penn Holds Off Cornell
After facing two high powered offenses, the Owls returned to a defensive oriented battle and won 17 – 7 in Tampa on Thursday Night Football. The defense scored when Sam Franklin returned a fumble 39-yards for a touchdown. The Owls limited the Bulls to 61 yards on the ground, 286 overall. Quincy Roche had 3.5 sacks, the team recorded 9. Roche and Audley Isaacs made 6 tackles, a career-best for Isaacs. The Owls are going bowling again in 2019.
Villanova snapped their three-game losing streak when the defense stopped Richmond in the second half. The Wildcats scored two second half touchdowns setting the margin of victory. The Spiders took a 28 – 21 lead at halftime and gained 270 yards on offense. The Cats defense limited them to 63 in the second half. In the 4th quarter quarterback Daniel Smith tied the game for the Cats with a 9-yard touchdown run. TD Ayo-Durojaiye got the winning score crossing the goal line from 20-yards out. Smith had 2 touchdowns, both rushing. Richmond quarterback Joe Mancuso ran for 89 yards and got into the endzone twice. He also threw two touchdown passes, both to Keyston Fuller. The Wildcats needed the win to get back into tournament berth consideration. The next two games are at home.
In an even game the University of Pennsylvania withstood a Cornell rally. The game-decider came when Kendren Smith blocked a pass on a Cornell two-point conversion attempt with 50 ticks on the clock. The winning Penn touchdown was a gadget play. Quarterback Ryan Glover threw back to wide receiver Owen Goldsberry who found Eric Markes for an 80-yard touchdown. The other Penn touchdown was off a big play when Kolton Huber hauled in a 40-yard scoring strike from Glover. The Big Red out-gained the Quakers 434 – 263.

Highlights – On offense running back Jager Gardner posted a career-high 133 yards rushing. Wide Receiver Jadan Blue caught 11 passes for 121 yards. Kenny Yeboah grabbed a one-yard touchdown pass from Todd Centeio.

Highlights – Smith was 20 of 28 passing for 235 yards. Jaaron Hayek caught 7 passes for 73 yards, and Changa Hodge hauled in 5 passes for 95 yards. DeeWill Barlee had 18 carries for 114 yards and 2 touchdown runs. Smith gained 105 yards on the ground. Villanova ran for 242 yards.

Result – Won 21 – 20 vs. Cornell
Summary – Prince Emili recorded 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Penn got a touchdown when Rory Starkey, Jr. caught a 12-yard pass from Nick Robinson. Cornell quarterback Richie Kenney threw for 276 yards connecting on 21 of 33 passing attempts. He had 2 touchdowns and one interception. Both scoring tosses were snared by Phazione McClurge who had 8 receptions for 124 yards.
