Phillies
The Phillies start with one of the most critical series of the year. The Atlanta Braves come to town for a four-game series that has the potential to decide the winner of the National League East. Philadelphia has the pitching rotation set up way would want to. In game one Christopher Sanchez throws against Chris Sale. This is a game-one post season like set up.
Then the Phils have Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Jesus Luzardo. Both teams come into the series red hot and know we are coming down the stretch. September baseball at the Bank.
Major League Baseball
Elsewhere in major league baseball; Colton Cowser of the Baltimore Orioles saved a home run for the final out of a 1 – 0 win over the Colorado Rockies. Alex Bregman the third baseman of the Chicago Cubs hit three home runs in a 17 – 3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. A’s Henry Bolte had his first multi-home run game of his career on a 9 – 2 victory against the Texas Rangers.
The wild card berths are up for grabs. In the American League Cleveland, Toronto, Texas and Baltimore are all in proximity for Wild Card number three. In the National League it will be a battle between Arizona and San Diego for the final wild card, with Miami lurking just behind.
Regional College Sports
Looking at college football, Week One begins in earnest. Delaware hosts Merrimack at home. The Blue Hens have a big game the following week when they play at Vanderbilt on September 12th. Penn State, Temple, Villanova, and West Chester start the season.
High profile games in men’s soccer sees Delaware playing at the University of Maryland. In women’s soccer, Penn travels to the main line for a city game at Villanova. Field hockey? Delaware has a game at Penn State.
Honor Roll
Phillies pitcher Andrew Painter didn’t get the win in Arizona but did have a quality start pitching 7 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 6 batters.
Player of the Week
That goes to Bryce Harper. In a 7 – 1 win in the desert Harper got on base 5 times in the game. He went 4 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, a two-out RBI, and one walk.
