Saint Joseph’s To Play Maryland In NCAA Field Hockey First Round

The Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament champion Saint Joseph’s Hawks will play the Maryland Terrapins in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey tournament. That game will be in Charlottesville, Virginia on Friday, November 15 at 2:30 PM.

Maryland tied for first place in the Big Ten regular season with Iowa, but lost to #5 Penn State in the Big Ten semifinal round. Given an at-large bid the Terrapins are eight-time NCAA Champions. They reached the finals last year.

Saint Joe’s has the firepower to compete with Maryland. The Hawks average a nation-leading 4.1 goals per game. SJU got the automatic bid defeating Richmond 1 – 0 in the Atlantic 10 final.

Virginia was the #3 seed and will be the host site for the first two rounds. The Cavaliers will play Delaware in their opener. The winners will advance.

Undefeated North Carolina was the #1 seed. The American champion UConn was seeded second. Louisville got the fourth seed.

The national semifinals and title game will be in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
