La Salle Starts 2 – 0 in the Atlantic 10, Penn Stops Harvard, Christiana Ogunsami Sets Drexel Record

Games The Week Of September 20 – 26, 2017

DREXEL 6 – 4 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 CAA

Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Northeastern, Won 2 – 0 vs. William & Mary both at Vidas Field

Summary – The Dragons picked up their first conference win and a draw over the weekend.  Goal Keeper Christiana Ogunsami made a career-high and program record 20 saves against Northeastern.  The Huskies had a 36 – 15 edge in shots, 21 – 8 on goal, but could not solve Ogunsami until the 65th minute.  Madison Dunn scored for the Dragons.  It was not as hectic in the Sunday game, but the senior goal keeper posted her 4th shutout of the season.  Raenah Campbell and Vanessa Kara had the Drexel goals.

Next Game – 9/28 at Hofstra

LA SALLE 7 – 3 – 1 Overall, 2 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 3 – 0 vs. Duquesne at McCarthy Stadium, Won 3 – 2 (OT) at Saint Joseph’s

Summary – The Explorers opened Atlantic 10 play with two wins.  After a shutout win La Salle and Saint Joseph’s went to overtime when Madison Bower scored the winner in the 94th minute of play.  In a back and forth battle the Explorers erased a 1 – 0 deficit to lead 2 – 1.  However, the Hawks tied the game late in regulation.  Maci and Madison Bower scored in the game at Hawk Hill.  Danielle Marx had a goal in both games.

Next Game – 9/28 vs. Dayton at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 2 – 5 – 2 Overall, 1 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 at Harvard

Summary – Emma Loving notched the only goal of the game as the University of Pennsylvania goes to 1 -0 in the Ancient Eight.  Camillia Nwokedi had the assist.  It was Penn’s first win at Harvard since 2007.  Loving was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week.

Next Game – 9/29 vs. Cornell at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S 6 – 3 – 1 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 2 – 0 at Richmond, Lost 3 – 2 (OT) vs. La Salle Sweeney Field

Summary –  The Hawks scored 2 goals in their conference games.  One was good for a win, the other was an overtime loss.  Morgan Bower had a goal in each contest.  She scored late in the second half to tie the game against the Explorers, only to see her sister Madison win the game for the opponent.  Gabriella Vagnozzi also had a goal in each game, and Michaela Finneyfrock found the back of the net in Virginia.

Next Game – 9/28 vs. George Mason at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 4 – 4 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 American

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Central Connecticut State University

Summary – The Owls ended their non-conference schedule with a loss at CCSU.  It also marked the end of the Temple scoreless streak at 358 minutes when Danielle Pearce of the Blue Devils got a goal in the 59th minute.  The Cherry and White had a 13 – 9 advantage in shots, and 7 – 2 in corner kicks.  Kayla Cunningham registered 4 shots, 2 on goal, but none crossed the goal line.

Next Game – 9/28 vs. East Carolina at the Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA 4 – 6 – 0 Overall, 0 – 1 Big East

Results – Lost  1 – 0 at Providence

Summary – The Wildcats fell in their Big East opener on a goal in the 76th minute by Hannah McNulty of the Friars.  Daniela Harris had a team-high 3 shots, 2 on goal for Villanova.  Goal Keeper Emily Harris made 4 saves.  Nova travels to Marquette before returning home to face Xavier on Sunday.
