                   Drexel Gets First Win Of The Season, La Salle Winning Streak Extends To Four Games

Week of  September 19 – 25, 2017

DREXEL 1 – 4 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 1 CAA

Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. Penn at Vidas Field

Summary –  The Dragons got their first win and first goals of the season beating Penn in a neighborhood derby.  Both goals were scored by Sebastien Cabral within less than two minutes of one another in the first half in being named the Soccer Six Co-Player of the Week.  Xavier Bou Hernandez set up both scores.  Drexel returns to CAA play on Thursday at Delaware before hosting Northeastern.

Next Game – 9/27 at Delaware

LA SALLE 4 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won  3 – 0 vs. Penn, Won 2 – 1 vs. Hartwick both at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – The Explorers continued their home stand with two wins.  The La Salle winning streak extends to four games as well.  Johnny Ciarlante scored the game winner against Hartwick, just two minutes before the end of regulation.  He had an assist in the Penn game.  Goal Keeper Mark Tobin was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week for the second consecutive week.  It was his fourth win of the year, and Tobin has a 0.80 Goals Against Average.  La Salle will end the five-game home stand before opening Atlantic 10 play at Duquesne.

Next Game – 9/27 vs. LIU Brooklyn at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 1 – 6 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsLost 3 – 0 at La Salle, Lost 2 – 1 at Drexel

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania lost both city games this week.  Sam Wanowicz had the goal scoring in the second half at Drexel.  The young Quakers open Ivy League play hosting Cornell on Saturday.

Next Game – 9/30 vs. Cornell at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  2 – 4 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Villanova, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Yale at Sweeney Field

Summary –  The Hawks dropped a pair of games this week.  Goal Keeper Greg O’Connell set a season-high with 7 saves in both the Villanova and Yale games.

Next Game – 9/26 at Navy

TEMPLE 2 – 5 – 1 Overall, 0 – 1 – 0 AAC

Results – Won 4 – 1 vs. Duquesne , Lost 2 – 0 vs. Connecticut both at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – The Owls posted a non-conference win over Duquesne led by forward Thibault Canadia who scored twice in the contest.  The momentum did not carry over to the American opener against Connecticut.  The Owls outshot the Huskies 14 – 7, but could not find the back of the net.  Canadia had a total of 10 shots over the week. Temple hosts Penn State before returning to conference action at Memphis.

VILLANOVA 5 – 4 – 0 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 3 – 0 at Saint Joseph’s , Lost 2 – 0 at Creighton

Summary – The Wildcats claimed a Soccer Six win behind the effort of PS6 Co-Player of the Week Lucas Hodges.  The senior midfielder scored twice and assisted on the third goal.  He converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute to give the Cats a  2 – 0 lead.  Returning to Big East games, Nova dropped a 2 – 0 decision in Omaha.  Creighton had a 15 – 10 edge in shots.  The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Wildcats.  Villanova returns to the Midwest for a game at DePaul.

Next Game – 9/30 at DePaul
