Alliya Butts, Temple – The junior guard posted 26 points for the Owls.  With 6 baskets from beyond the arc Butts became the all-time leader for Temple in made three-pointers with 176.  She converted 9 of 19 field goals, 6 of 11 from distance, and added 5 steals in the game.

Games The Week of December 20 – 26, 2016

LA SALLE 7 – 4 Overall,  1 – 0 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results –   Won 78 – 38 vs. Delaware State at the Gola Arena

Summary – The Explorers posted the largest margin of victory under Coach Jeff Williams.  La Salle got off to an 8 – 0 lead that grew to 21 points at halftime.  Amy Griffin led the way with 22 points and added 6 assists and 5 rebounds.  Adreana Miller scored 17 points while Shalina Miller added 14 points and 4 blocked shots.

Next Game – 12/28/2016 – vs. Missouri – Kansas City at the Gola Arena

PENN 4 – 4 Overall,  0 – 0 Ivy League,  0 – 2 Big Five

Results –  Idle

Summary – The Quakers are taking final exams as well, and have off until the California trip at the end of the month.

Next Game – 12/31 at CSU – Northridge

SAINT JOSEPH’S 3 – 8 Overall, 0 –0 Atlantic 10, 1

Results – Lost 75 – 64 vs. Hofstra at the Hagan Arena

Next Game – 12/28/2016 vs. James Madison at the Hagan Arena

TEMPLE 8 – 3,  Overall, 0 – 0 AAC, 3 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 73 – 59 vs. Fairfield at McGonigle Hall

Summary -The winning streak for the Owls has grown to four games.  The win was number 172 for Coach Tonya Cardoza which tied her with Dawn Staley for the most all-time victories in program history.  Guard Alliya Butts scored 26 points and made 6 three-pointers.  She became the all-time leader in that category with 176 from beyond the arc.  Feyonda Fitzgerald got her first double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Tanaya Atkinson also put up a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 15 boards.  The Cherry and White took control scoring 20 straight points from late in the third quarter to midway through the fourth.  Conference play is next for Temple as they will bring in the new year at Memphis.

VILLANOVA  4 – 6 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Lost 68 – 50 at #17 Duke

Summary –  The Wildcats trailed by 12 at halftime, and were able to get to within 9 points in the third quarter.  That was as close as Villanova would come.  Nova shots 31.1% from the field while Duke made 53.8% of their shots.  Adrianna Hahn paced Villanova with 18 points and Alex Louin added 11 points.  It is Big East conference play starting on Wednesday against Marquette at home.

DREXEL 7 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 81 – 39 at Lafayette

Summary –  Credit the defense for the Dragons who set a season-mark in fewest points allowed holding Lafayette to 39 points.  The Leopards were limited to 10 points or fewer in three of the four quarters of play.  Drexel forced 24 turnovers while turning over a dozen times in creating a 34 – 8 edge in points off turnovers.  On offense all 10 Dragons who played scored.  Jessica Pellechio led the way with 14 points.  Three other Drexel players scored in double digits; Bailey Greenberg (13) Sarah Curran (11), and Ana Ferariu (10).  The Dragons got out to a 25 – 7 lead after the first quarter.

Next Game – 12/27 – 28/2016 at the FIU Holiday Tournament in Miami, FL; 12/27 vs. George Mason, 12/28 vs. Massachusetts
