Michelle Nwokedi, Penn – The junior forward had a very productive week for the University of Pennsylvania.  Nwokedi recorded a double-double against Wagner where she scored 17 points and took down 10 rebounds.  For the week Nwokedi scored 33 points, grabbed 18 boards, and had 4 assists and 5 blocked shots to help Penn even their season record.

Games The Week of November 29 -December 5, 2016

LA SALLE 4 – 4 Overall,  1 – 0 Atlantic 10, 0 – 2 Big Five

Results –   Lost 52 – 49 at Villanova, Won 54 – 51 at Dayton

Summary – The Explorers dropped a hard fought Big Five decision at Villanova, but got a conference opener win on the road.  On the Main Line La Salle got to within 44 – 42 late, but Nova went 6 for 6 from the free throw line to seal the win.  The charity stripe was nicer to the Explorers at Dayton.  Jasmine Alston and Micahya Owens made the foul shots in the last minute to get the win.  Amy Griffin scored 23 points and took down 10 rebounds over the two games.

Next Game – 12/7/2016 – at Penn

PENN 3 – 3 Overall,  0 – 0 Ivy League,  0 – 1 Big Five

Results –  Won 64 – 47 at Lafayette, Won 63 – 39 at Wagner

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania evened their record with back to back wins on the road.  Michelle Nwokedi led the way at Lafayette scoring 16 points while grabbing 8 boards.  She added 3 assists and 3 blocked shots in Easton.  The junior forward followed that effort with a double-double on Staten Island with a game-high 17 points and added 10 rebounds.  Sydney Stipanovich registered her 32nd career double-double behind 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Penn started the game with a 19 – 0 run.

Next Game – 12/7 vs. La Salle at the Palestra

SAINT JOSEPH’S 2 – 5 Overall, 0 –0 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results – Lost 62 – 54 vs. Villanova at the Hagan Arena

Summary – The Hawks lost a close one to Villanova who used a 7 – 0 run midway through the fourth quarter to dropped Saint Joe’s to 1- 2 in the Big Five.  There were 14 lead changes and 12 ties in the game.  A jumper by Chelsea Woods, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds, brought SJU to within 51 – 50 with 4:27 to play.  Villanova iced the game with the decisive run where the Cats converted 4 of 6 free throws.

Next Game – 12/9/2016 at Central Michigan

TEMPLE 4 – 2,  Overall, 0 – 0 AAC, 2 – 0 Big Five

Results – Lost 73 – 62 at Harvard, Won 53 – 39 vs. Vermont at McGonigle Hall

Summary – The Owls split the slate of games this week.  They shot 32.4% (23 – 71) in the loss at Harvard.  Temple turned that around forcing Vermont into 27.5% shooting (15 – 51) and 23 turnovers.  Tanaya Atkinson recorded her third straight double-double at Harvard scoring 19 points and taking down 12 rebounds.  Donnaizha Fountain and Alliya Butts led the way against Vermont with 16 points each.  For the week Feyonda Fitzgerald had 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Butts recorded a total of 31 points.

Next Game – 12/7 at Hampton

VILLANOVA  4 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East, 2 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 52 – 49 at La Salle, Won 62 – 54 at Saint Joseph’s, Won 59 – 37 vs. Lehigh

Summary –  The Wildcats swept their two Big Five road wins in two tight contests.  Villanova used 6 free throws down the stretch to win at La Salle.  On Hawk Hill it was a close game that saw 14 lead changes and 12 ties.  The Nova lead was down to 51 – 50 with just under four and a half minutes to play.  The Cats responded with a 7 – 0 run, 4 from the free throw line to get their third victory of the year.  Alex Louin scored 39 points over the two games.  She made 3 of 4 three-point shots.  Adrianna Hahn put up 20 points at La Salle.  The Cats wound up the week with a victory over Lehigh.  Megan Quinn registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  For the week Quinn put up 31 points and took down 21 rebounds.

Next Game – 12/10 vs. Temple at the Pavilion

DREXEL 4 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 63 – 53 at Cornell

Summary –  The Dragons earned their first road win of the season behind 17 points by guard Jessica Pellechio who made three from beyond the arc.  Fellow seniors Sarah Curran and Meghan Creighton scored in double figures.  Curran had 16 and Creighton 14 points, half at the foul line, and 8 assists.  Drexel withstood a Cornell run at the end that brought them to within 56 – 53 with 1:29 to play, but would get no closer.
