Drexel Streak Reaches 6 Games, La Salle’s Kelsey Haycook Garners League Honors, Temple Gets Win Number 9

DREXEL DRAGONS 5 – 5 – 2 Overall, 2 – 0 –1 CAA
Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Delaware at Vidas Field
Summary –
Drexel 0 Delaware 0 (2 OT) – The Dragons unbeaten streak reached 6 games with the tie. In that same span Drexel has not yielded a goal. The last time goal keeper Kelsie Fye was scored on was 549 minutes ago. The Dragons outshot the Blue Hens 19 – 13, but no shots crossed the goal line.

LA SALLE EXPLORERS 6 – 4 – 2 Overall, 2 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 3 – 0 vs. George Washington, Won 3 –1 vs. VCU both at McCarthy Stadium
Summary –
La Salle 3 George Washington 0 – Kelsey Haycook scored twice and Kristin Haugstad added another goal in the Explorers conference opener. Haycook connected in the 4th minute. She added another in the 50th minute putting the ball into the lower left corner of the net. Haugstad scored off a header in the 69th minute. La Salle goal keeper Jessica Wiggins got her third shutout of the season making six saves.
La Salle 3 VCU 1 – Kelsey Haycook scored twice for the second consecutive game. The first goal came just 38 seconds into the contest. Haycook connected again at the 18:01 mark. Anna Dolhansky scored in the 81st minute. Explorer net minder Jessica Wiggins bid for a second straight shutout was denied by a VCU goal in the 83rd minute.
Haycook was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week in addition to being the ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

PENN QUAKERS 4 – 3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 2 – 0 Ivy League
Results – Lost 3 – 2 at Cornell, Won 1 – 0 vs. Loyola (MD) at Rhodes Field
Summary –
Cornell 3 Penn 2 – The Red and Blue gave up the first three goals of the game. Penn got two back in the second half, but lost their Ivy League battle to Cornell. In the second half the Quakers outshot the Big Red 6 – 2, and got goals from Haley Cooper and Ana Chevtchenko. It just was not quite enough.
Penn 1 Loyola (MD) 0 – The Quakers ended their two game losing streak. Juliana Provini scored on a header just before halftime to provide the winning margin. Penn outshot Loyola 15 – 2, 13 – 1 in the first half.

SAINT JOSEPH’S HAWKS 7 –6 – 0 Overall, 0 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10
Result – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at Rhode Island, Lost 2 – 1 at Massachusetts
Summary –
Rhode Island 1 Saint Joseph’s 0 (OT) – URI scored the lone goal of the game 4:23 into the overtime period. Samantha Leyh headed the ball home. SJU had a 6 – 5 edge in shots. Emily Gingrich had 3 shots for the Hawks. Allison Ebling made 5 saves for SJU.
Massachusetts 2 Saint Joseph’s 1 – The Hawks took a 1 – 0 lead on a goal from Meghan DiPippa as she redirected a corner kick by teammate Olivia McEachern. UMass tied the game a minute later. The game-winner came with less than four minutes to play as a corner kick by Jackie Bruno found the back of the net. UMass had a 13 – 10 edge in shots.

TEMPLE OWLS 9 – 3 –1 Overall, 2 – 1 – 1 AAC
Results – Won 3 – 2 (OT) vs. Tulsa, Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Memphis both at the Ambler Sports Complex
Summary –
Temple 3 Tulsa 2 (OT) – With 1:21 left in overtime Kayla Cunningham found a throw-in from Taylor Trusky at the far post and put it home for the win. The Owls outshot the Golden Hurricanes 15 – 10. Erin Lafferty and Kelly Farrell also scored for the Cherry and White. Owl goal keeper Shauni Kerkhoff registered 5 saves.
Temple 1 Memphis 1 (2 OT) – The Tigers got the scoring underway at the 10:20 mark on a goal by Valerie Sanderson. The Owls answered less than 2 minutes later when Kelly Farrell took a deep pass from Taylor Trusky and headed the ball past the goal keeper. Memphis outshot Temple 11 – 9, and had an 8 – 0 edge in corner kicks. The Cherry and White had a 4 – 2 edge in shots in the overtime periods. Shauni Kerkhoff made 5 saves for the Owls.

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 4 – 7 – 2 Overall, 2 – 2 – 0 Big East
Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. Xavier, Lost 2 – 1 vs. #15 DePaul both at The Higgins Soccer Complex
Summary –
Villanova 1 Xavier 0 – Jessica Moskal scored a dramatic game-winning goal in the 89th minute for the Wildcats. It was her first collegiate goal putting the ball low to the right side. Amanda Vocelka and Victoria Gersh assisted.
#15 DePaul 2 Villanova 1 – The undefeated Blue Demons tallied two first half goals and that would be enough to earn the road win. Amber Paul and Rachel Pitman scored for DePaul. The Wildcats made it a one-goal game in the second half when Christina Camassa scored off an Amanda Vocelka assist. But Nova would get no closer. Wildcats goal keeper Emma Meyer made a career-high 9 saves including a penalty kick stop in the first half.
