Temple Wins and Drexel Loses for the First Time This Season, Saint Joseph’s Posts First Atlantic 10 Victory

The Drexel Dragons fell for the first time 2 – 1 on a goal by Towson’s Jasmine Hamid at the 73:11 mark. The Dragons rebounded on a rainy weekend behind two goals by Delaney Lappin, scored in the first half at home against Elon. Lappin is the team leading scorer with 7 goals and 15 points….On the other side the Temple Owls got their first win in convincing fashion 5 – 0 over LIU. Four different Owls scored in the game led by Kathryn Cortiz who had a goal and an assist. Temple scored the most goals in one game since 2017 when they defeated Delaware State 8 – 0…In the Ivy League the University of Pennsylvania played to another draw, this time at Cornell. Penn has tied 7 times this season. The Quakers followed up with a 1 – 0 win over FDU. Goalie Annabel Austen recorded a clean slate in her first collegiate start saving five shots…..The Saint Joseph’s Hawks got a win over Fordham by a 3 – 1 score. It was the Hawks first Atlantic 10 victory and breaks a streak of 4 conference ties. Jiselle Daniels scored the golden goal at the 21:52 mark….The Villanova Wildcats played two home Big East games over the week. Both games were 1 – 0. Nova was on the winning side against St. John’s, but were on the losing side of the ledger in the Xavier game. Brigid Molloy scored the only Villanova goal on a header in the 55th minute….The La Salle Explorers had a 2 – 1 lead at halftime on goals by Alyssa Gargiulo and Ricchya Walker. Duquesne got the next three to seal the win.

It is league play again for the Philly teams. In West Philadelphia Drexel hosts Hofstra, and Penn has Columbia in town. Loyola of Chicago makes its first Atlantic 10 trip to Philadelphia playing Saint Joseph’s. UCF visits North Philadelphia for an American game with Temple. La Salle goes to New York for a match with Fordham. Villanova takes a trip to Indianapolis to play Butler.

Games of September 26 – October 3, 2022

DREXEL 8 – 1 – 3 Overall, 3 – 1 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Towson Won 2 – 1 at Elon

Summary – Kailey Horton got the goal for Drexel in the loss at Towson in the 66th minute. The Dragons outshot the Tigers with 14 shots and 7 on goal vs. 12 and 6 for the Tigers.

Next Game – October 6 vs. Hofstra at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 6 – 6 – 0 Overall, 1 – 4 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 4 – 2 vs. Duquesne

Summary – The four goals given up to the Dukes were the most goals given up in a single game by the Explorers. Duquesne put 8 shots on goal.

Next Game – October 9 at Fordham

PENN  3 – 1 – 7 Overall, 0 – 0 – 2 Ivy League

Results– Tied 1 – 1 at Cornell, Won 1 – 0 vs. FDU

Summary – The Big Red tied the game with a goal just after halftime. Isobel Glass scored in the 8th minute for the Quakers. Laurence Gladu saved a season-high 7 saves. On a rainy Monday night Sizzy Lawton got the only goal in the win over FDU.

Next Game – October 8 vs. Columbia at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  2 – 5 – 6 Overall, 1 – 0 – 4 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 3 – 1 vs. Fordham

Summary – All four goals in the game were scored in the first half. In addition to Daniels scores were recorded by Natalie Nevins and Mairin Boyle. The Rams outshot the Hawks 10 – 9, but SJU had more shots on goal 4 – 3.

Next Game – October 8 vs. Loyola of Chicago a Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 1 – 5 – 4 Overall, 0 – 2 – 0 AAC

Results – Won 5 – 0 vs. LIU

Summary – Carly Steinberg, Jillian Allgood, Sumaya Togba also recorded goals in the victory over LIU. Kyla Burns made 6 saves in getting her fourth shutout of the season.

Next Game – October 4 vs. UCF at The Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA 3 – 4 – 2 Overall, 2 – 1 – 0

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Xavier, Won 1 – 0 vs. St. John’s

Summary – Goalie Megan McClay made a season-high 8 saves in the loss to Xavier. Molly McLaughlin put a header into the net in the 21st minute in the Cats Big East home opener.

Next Game – October 6 at Butler
