Penn Winning Streak Reaches Five Games, La Salle Victorious in Two Straight Conference Contests
The University of Pennsylvania won their last five games, their longest win streak since 2010. The Quakers opened Ivy League play winning 2 – 1 in New Haven against Yale. Ben Stitz tied the game in the 24th minute. Leo Burney scored the game-winner in the 75th minute….The La Salle Explorers defeated Saint Bonaventure 2 – 1 to extend their Atlantic 10 winning streak to two games. Nigel Buckley scored the game winner at 56:04. It is his 5th goal of the season….The Villanova Wildcats split the week. They beat Penn State 1 – 0 on a goal Anthony Dragisics in the 18th minute. In Big East play Nova lost to Creighton on the road. The Blue Jays broke a 1 – 1 halftime tie with 2 second half goals….The Saint Joseph’s Hawks were on a two-game homestand. They lost 2 – 0 to Monmouth in the Battle of the Hawks. Saint Joe’s turned it around with a 3 – 1 win over Davidson for their initial A10 victory. The three-goal output is their most scored this season. Omry Perel had a goal and an assist….The Drexel Dragons two-game winning streak came to an end with a 3 – 0 loss at Elon. Both of the previous wins were clean slates. The Phoenix won it getting two second half goals….The Temple Owls travelled to Texas to meet #25 SMU. The Cherry and White lost 4 – 1. Yann Kouemi scored for Temple in the 84th minute. He had 4 shots on goal. The Mustangs took control with three scores in a nine-and-a-half-minute span early in the first half.
The upcoming week sees the Quakers and the Explorers put their conference winning streaks on the line. Penn looks for win number 6 and the second Ivy win when they host Dartmouth. La Salle goes to George Mason in an Atlantic 10 battle. Temple has a home game against FIU. Villanova hosts Marquette in the Big East. Saint Joseph’s goes to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne. Drexel goes to Lehigh for a non-conference game.

DREXEL 4 – 3 – 3 Overall, 2 – 2 – 1 CAA
Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Elon
Summary – Elon had the advantage in shots getting 13, 7 on goal. Drexel put up 9 shots, but only 2 required saves. Alessandro Caponga made 4 saves for the Dragons
Next Game – October 4 at Lehigh
LA SALLE 3 – 5 – 2 Overall, 2 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. Saint Bonaventure
Summary – The Bonnies took the lead at the 18:20 mark. La Salle answered one minute later to knot the game at one. The Explorers limited the Bonnies to 4 shots, 3 on goal. La Salle had 17 shots of which 5 were on net.

PENN – 6 – 1 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 – 0 Ivy League
Results– Won 2 – 1 at Yale
Summary – Penn now has a 9-match unbeaten streak against Yale. Each team had 3 shots on goal. The Quakers edge in shots stood at 13 – 8.
Next Game – October 8 vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field
SAINT JOSEPH’S 2 – 4 – 4 Overall, 1 – 1 – 1 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. Monmouth, Won 3 – 1 vs. Davidson
Summary – Monmouth scored twice in the last 15 minutes to secure the win with Ben Zakowski getting a goal and an assist. SJU goalie Lars Haavic made 6 saves. Saint Joe’s led the entire game against Davidson. Kenyatta Collins and Blake Driehaus added goals for SJU.
Next Game – October 5 at Duquesne
TEMPLE 2 – 5 – 2 Overall, 0 – 3 – 0 AAC
Results – Lost 4 – 1 at #25 SMU
Summary – The Owls seek win number one in the American. Temple fell victim to a natural hat trick by Fredrik Skilberg that began in the 17th minute and concluded in the 26th minute. The Owls trailed the Mustangs 9 – 8 in shots on goal.

VILLANOVA 4 – 3 – 2 Overall, 1 – 1 – 1 Big East
Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. Penn State, Lost 3 – 1 at Creighton
Summary – A three-game winning streak for Villanova was snapped at Creighton. After limiting Penn State to on shot on goal, Nova saw 6 shots on the net in Omaha. Lyam MacKinnon tied the game at the 39:29 mark. The edge in shots as 20 – 13, and 6 – 4 on goal for the Blue Jays. The Big East record for Villanova is the picket fence, 1 -1 – 1.
