Drexel Completes Non-Conference Schedule Unbeaten, Saint Joseph’s La Salle and Temple Ready for Conference Contests

The Drexel Dragons completed their non-conference schedule without a loss. Over the week Drexel tied with Temple at zero, then won 3 – 0 over Lafayette. Delaney Lappin found the back of the net twice against Lafayette. She has five goals this season…. The University of Pennsylvania posted a victory and a tie over their two game homestand. Penn played Navy to a 1-all draw then beat Stony Brook 3 – 0. Against Navy Janae Stewart gave the Red and Blue a lead in the 36th minute, but Amanda Graziano tied it for the visitors in the 80th minute….The Temple Owls played to a scoreless against Drexel in West Philadelphia. Goalie Kayla Burns made 8 saves….The Saint Joseph’s Hawks got a tie and a loss over the week. Saint Joe’s lost at home against Hofstra, then went to Maryland coming back with a scoreless draw. Goalie Katie Cappelletti made 7 saves in the two games… The La Salle Explorers dropped a 3 – 1 decision at # 9 Rutgers to complete their non-conference schedule. Alyssa Garguilo scored on a penalty kick at 7:43 to give the Explorers an early lead…. Villanova was idle this week.

Drexel begins play in the CAA with a trip to Charleston on September 22nd. Atlantic 10 conference games start for La Salle and Saint Joseph’s. Both teams are home. Richmond comes to Hawk Hill. Saint Louis will be at 20th & Olney. Temple goes on the road to play Tulsa in an American contest. Villanova returns to the pitch going to Colgate. Penn gets on a plane to play in Moraga, California against St. Mary’s.

DREXEL 5 – 0 – 3 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 vs. Temple, Won 3 – 0 vs. Lafayette

Summary – In the draw with Temple Delaney Lappin 7 of the 22 Drexel shots. The Dragons had an 8 – 2 edge in shots on goal in the city game. Kailey Horton scored the other goal against Lafayette.

Next Game – September 22 at the College of Charleston

LA SALLE 5 – 2 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 1 at #9 Rutgers

Summary – After taking a 1 – 0 lead La Salle was victimized by two goals by Rutgers within a span of 2:09 just 8 minutes later.

Next Game – September 15 vs. Saint Louis

PENN –2 – 0 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

Results– Tied 1 – 1 vs. Navy, Won 3 – 0 vs. Stony Brook

Summary – Three Quakers scored against Stony Brook; Sizzy Lawton, Lauren Teuschl, and Isobel Glass. Over the two-game stretch Penn outshot the opposition 39 – 10, 19 – 3 in shots on goal.

Next Game – September 15 at Saint Mary’s

SAINT JOSEPH’S  1 – 5 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. Hofstra, Tied 0 – 0 at Maryland

Summary – The Hawks ended their non-conference schedule with a tie. Against Hofstra a goal by Ellen Halseth decided it for the Pride at the 60:28 mark.

Next Game – September 15 vs. Richmond

TEMPLE 0 – 2 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 AAC

Results – Tied 0 – 0 at Drexel

Summary – Burns faced 22 shots turning in a clean slate against Drexel. The Owls look for victory number one.

Next Game – September 15 at Tulsa

VILLANOVA 0 – 3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0

Results – idle

Summary – The Wildcats seek their initial win of the season.
