La Salle Conference Win Streak Reaches 8 Games, Drexel In Second Place in CAA, Saint Joseph’s In Eighth Place and Playoff Spot In A-10, Penn Third In The Ivies

Games The Week Of October 11 – 17, 2017

DREXEL 10 – 5 – 1 Overall, 5 – 1 – 1 CAA

Results – Won 1 – 0 (OT) vs. College of Charleston at Vidas Field

Summary – The Dragons got a 1 – 0 overtime win when Imani Walker scored early in the extra period.  Drexel has won four straight, and solidified their hold on second place in the CAA.  With another shutout goal keeper Christiana Ogunsami has 8 clean slates this season.  The last goal given up was on September 21 vs. Northeastern.

Next Game – 10/19 at James Madison University

LA SALLE 13 – 3 – 1 Overall, 8 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 0 at Saint Bonaventure, Won 1 – 0 vs. Fordham at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – The Explorers are a perfect  8 – 0 in the conference and on an eight-game winning streak.  Posting two more blank sheets Larisa Zambelli has 11 shutouts this season.  Maci Bower scored against the Bonnies at the 2:52 mark to put LSU in front.  Marcela Robinson insured the win in the 76th minute.  A successful penalty kick by Kristin Haugstad was the difference against the Rams.

Next Game – 10/19 at George Mason

PENN – 4 – 6 – 3 Overall, 2 – 1 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field

Summary – Erica Higa won it for the University of Pennsylvania in the 98th minute.  Kristen Miller left footed the ball to the middle, a volley over the goal keeper resulted in Higa’s golden goal.  Kitty Qu saved six in the game.  Penn tied Yale for third place in the Ancient Eight, two-points behind Princeton for second place.

Next Game – 10/21 vs. Yale at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S 8 – 5 – 3 Overall, 3 – 3 – 2 Atlantic 10

Result – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at George Washington, Won 2 – 1 vs. Rhode Island at Sweeney Field

Summary –  The Hawks moved into eighth place in the Atlantic 10 win a draw and a win over the week.  Grace Bendon made 4 saves against the Colonials to register a shutout in a game where Saint Joe’s was outshot 15 – 11.  Kylie D’Ambra and Morgan Bower put goals on the scoreboard in the URI game.  Bower scored the game-winner in the 74th minute.

Next Game – 10/19 vs. Fordham at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 6 – 7 – 2 Overall, 2 – 3 – 1 American

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Houston, Lost 2 – 0 vs. SMU both at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – The Owls were involved in a pair of 2 – 0 games.  They were on the upside in one game, the downside in the other.  Gabriella McKeown scored in the 14th minute to give the Owls the lead against the Cougars.  Emma Wilkins put the next one over the line three minutes later.  It was the 4th clean slate of the season for Morgan Basileo.  Temple was defeated in the other game during the week and were outshot 19 – 8, 6 – 1 on goal.  McKeown registered 4 shots for the Cherry and White.

Next Game – 10/19 at USF

VILLANOVA 6 – 9 – 0 Overall, 2 – 4 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Creighton

Summary – Emily Kuefler was awarded a penalty kick in the 84th minute.  Creighton goal keeper  McKenzie Meola saved the shot.  On the ensuing corner kick the Blue Jays broke out on the Wildcats goal.  A shot by Kaira Houser put a shot in the right corner for the winner one minute later.

Next Game – 10/19 vs. St. John’s at the Higgins Soccer Complex
