PHILLY COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER WEEK IN REVIEW
The women’s soccer season for 2019 has begun. The start of the year featured local rivalries, and if no games could be scheduled, take on a national opponent. It is a good way to begin a season with excitement. Locally, Drexel had two city opponents. They lost to Saint Joseph’s, but would defeat La Salle. Saint Joseph’s and Villanova tied at 1. On a national scale the Wildcats started the season with a 1 – 0 win over #24 LSU. Penn began its season against #3 Stanford and fell 5 – 1. Nova traveled to the west coast, but lost to Oregon State and Oregon. La Salle faced #8 Duke in the Carolina Nike Classic, but dropped a 2 – 1 match. Temple raised the curtain at #23 Wake Forest, but were on the short side of a 3 – 0 decision. Did it work? Every team in the city posted a victory.
This week Drexel heads to California for games against Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State. Temple hosts Florida State while Saint Joe’s hosts Pitt as each team meets an ACC opponent. La Salle goes to Florida to play Florida Gulf Coast University. In Philly match ups the Wildcats play to Owls on North Broad Street.
