The Dragons Historic Season Concludes with a Loss at Seton Hall in WNIT Sweet 16
March 24, 2022 –
It is a historic season for the Drexel Dragons. They finish 28 – 6, but the campaign ended falling 78 – 71 at Seton Hall. The 28 wins ties the program record for most wins in a single season. The six losses represents the fewest defeats at the school in Coach Amy Mallon’s second season as head coach.
Forward Mariah Leonard concluded her collegiate career with a season-high 16 points making 8 of 12 from the field, added 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Hannah Nihill played her final college basketball game with 20 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Tessa Brugler concluded her graduate season with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Team leading scorer Keishana Washington was limited to 11 points.
Decisive Runs by Seton Hall
Seton Hall held the lead for most of the game, but Drexel was still in contention. In the fourth quarter the Dragons moved ahead by 9-points at the 8:41 mark. But the Pirates erased that lead.
Drexel took their last lead 63 – 61 at the 3:49 mark on a Nihill three-pointer. Seton Hall moved back in front behind an 8 – 2 run. Brugler converted a bucket at 1:41 to get her team to within a single-point. But a three by Lauren Park-Lane and a steal by Lane that resulted in a fast break layup for Katie Armstrong put the Hall firmly in control.
The Historic Hall Season as well
Park-Lane scored a game-high 29 points and Sidney Cooks added 19 points. The quarterfinal round win is the deepest that any Seton Hall team has advanced in a postseason tournament.
