The Fraud Five by Mike Kern – Week 5 Edition

October 4, 2026

Florida — Last week Gators put Ole Miss in this spot. Now its their turn. Lost 45-17 at Missouri. Life in the SEC can be harsh. And treacherous.

Mississippi State — Speaking of which, Bulldogs were trying to make a statement. They did. Just not the one they wanted to. Lost 56-23 at home to Alabama. But I guess their quarterback can still be a Heisman Trophy kinda guy.

Penn State — Repeat offender from a week ago.  Nits were slight underdog at Northwestern, which was opening its new stadium on a Friday night. Final was 34-13. It wasn’t really that close. Wildcats rushed for 413 yards for offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. I know Nits were still playing without their best wide receiver. But Cats also beat them last year, in James Franklin’s last game. But at least his Virginia Tech team also lost that same night. If anyone in Happy Valley still cares.

Stanford — One week after beating Georgia Tech at home, The Cardinal lost 57-3 at Wake Forest. I know WF is good, but in no world can that happen.

UMass — Hated to do this, but Minutemen were somehow still unbeaten and favored by almost a touchdown against visiting Eastern Michigan. They lost 38-14. Probably should have seen it coming. Now EMU is 2-0 in MAC For first time in two decades. Imagine that.

Dishonorable Mention:

Arizona State — Was favored by a field goal at home against Baylor. Lost 55-19. Which seems a bit much.
