Temple Rallies Past Villanova in Field Hockey

The Temple Owls rallied scoring two fourth quarter goals to earn a 3 – 2 win over the Villanova Wildcats on Senior Day at Howarth Field. Temple holds the fourth place spot in the Big East standings with a 4 – 8 league record.

The deciding goals came in the final quarter. Caitlyn Amsden got the tying goal in just under four and a half minutes into the fourth. The score stood after a review by the officials to determine if the ball was kicked into the net. The winner by Myrthe Scuilenburg at the 52:23 mark, her first goal of the season. The assist went to Veronika Novakova.

The Owls got the first goal of the game three minutes into the contest from Nieenke Oerlemans, goal number 4 on the season with Amsden getting the assist.,

The Wildcats took the lead in the third quarter getting two goals in 59 seconds of one another. Meghan Mitchell posted her initial goal of the season assisted by Amanda Middleman at 33:28. Villanova claimed the lead as Sabine De Ruijter scored in a penalty stroke goal.

Temple will conclude its season next week with a non-conference game against La Salle. Villanova ends the campaign with a 4 – 10 record, 3 – 9 in the conference. The Big East Tournament hosted by Villanova begins on April 22.
