November 12, 2020 –
The Ivy League announced today that the league will not conduct winter sports in the 2020-21 season. The decision was made unanimously by the Ivy League Council of Presidents. The Council decided this was the best way to safeguard the health and wellbeing of student athletes, the campus community, and the general public.
In addition the league will not conduct fall sports games in the spring semester. Lastly, competition for spring sports is postponed until at least the end of February 2021. Winter and fall sports student-athletes will not lose a season of NCAA eligibility.
In its release the League stated that “the unanimous decision by the Council of Presidents follow extended consideration of options and strategies to mitigate the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and the need to continue policies related to travel, group size, and visitors to the campus to safeguard the campus and community.”
The Council will continue to monitor the health climate and consider changes to the policies when warranted.
