A light day for Philly college athletes at the US Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, OR. Only two competitors took to the track. How did they do?
Women’s 400m Hurdles
Aliya Garozzo ran in Heat 1 of the semifinal round. She finished in 7th place with a time of :57.35. The top two finishers in the three heats plus the next two fastest times would advance to the final. Garozzo does not move on. She was ranked 21st overall. Garozzo started off in 5th place, but fell to 6th, then 9th for most of the remaining hurdles until mounting a late rally to move up two places. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone turned in the fastest time in this segment running a :52.48 which sets a new World Leading time this season.
Women’s 10,000m
In the final of the event Emily Lipari (Villanova Class of 2014) stayed in the top ten for the first 8000m of the race, but faded back to finish in 17th place covering the distance in32:52.99. She will not make the Olympic team in the event. The best split for the former Wildcat was at the 7200m mark posting a 1:15.12.
The United States will have Weini Kelati (31:41.07), Parker Valby (31:41.56) and Karissa Schweizer (31:41.56) running in Paris.
