CAA Preseason Basketball Polls and Awards

Hofstra Presason Men’s Favorite, Drexel Picked for Third

James Madison University Women’s Preseason First Place Favorite, Drexel Selected For Second Place

The Colonial Athletic Association released its preseason poll and All-Conference selections for men’s and women’s basketball in their media days Wednesday and Thursday.

Hofstra, who won the CAA last year, was named the men’s preseason favorite getting 290 points closely followed by Delaware with 270 points. Hofstra was picked for first place by 16 voters while Delaware got 11 votes. Drexel got 7 first place votes and placed third with 242 points. Towson was picked for 4th place getting 230 points and 4 top-spot selections.

The Dragons had two players on the Preseason All-Conference First Team. Graduate forward James Butler and junior guard Camren Wynter were selected to the team.

The final order of finish was; 1. Hofstra 2. Delaware 3. Drexel 4. Towson 5. Elon 6. Charleston 7. Northeastern 8. UNCW 9. James Madison 10. William & Mary

For women’s basketball James Madison was picked to win it all getting 76 points. The Drexel Dragons were right behind finishing with 65 points. These two teams tied for the regular season title last season. JMU got 6 first place votes while Drexel got 2. Towson was predicted to be in third place with 60 points and one first place vote. Elon got a first place ballot and was tied for fourth place with Northeastern.

Dragons junior guard Keishana Washington was a preseason first team all-conference selection. Hannah Nihill made honorable mention.

The final preseason standings were; 1. James Madison 2. Drexel 3. Towson 4. Elon and Northeastern in a tie 6. Delaware 7. Charleston 8. William & Mary 9. UNCW 10. Hofstra
