September 8, 2020 –
In a season that is testing the adaptability of the Temple football program, the American Athletic Conference announced today at the Temple game at Navy originally scheduled for September 26 will be moved to October 10.
This season the Owls saw all of their non-conference games cancelled, city restrictions due to COVID-19 has limited their practice time, and now, the opener is delayed by another two weeks. Temple needs the practice time to be ready to play a football game.
“We want to play as fast as we could, but with the restrictions we’re under moving it back was our last chip in getting the team ready to play,” said Temple Coach Rod Carey.
Due to city restrictions the team could have no more than 50 people present at a practice. The Owls are ready for a limited number of plays on offense and done very little hitting. They are just not ready to play a game.
We can’t be prepared under the restrictions we’re under,” Carey said.
Navy played this past weekend, but also experience limited preparation. BYU defeated Navy 55 – 3. The Midshipmen will face Tulane on September 19th.
Both schools agreed to play on a common open week which was October 10th.
“We’re frustrated, but who’s not?,” Carey said. “We’re dealing with it well.”
