La Salle Wins A Key Atlantic 10 Battle, Temple Won Six Of Last Seven Games, Joe Swenson Scores A Hat Trick For Penn

DREXEL 2 – 11 – 1 Overall, 1 – 5 – 1 CAA
Results – Lost 3 – 0 vs. Lehigh at Vidas Field, Lost 1 – 0 at Elon
Summary – It was a tough week for the Dragons as they were shut out twice. The losing streak has grown to 6 games. Early goals were the undoing for Drexel as they gave up two first half goals against Lehigh, and Elon got the only goal of the game in the 18th minute.
Next Game – 10/24 vs. La Salle at Vidas Field
LA SALLE 6 – 8 – 1 Overall, 2 – 4 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 4 – 2 vs. Saint Joseph’s at McCarthy Stadium
Summary – The Explorers got a key win against their city rivals. It was important in the Atlantic 10 as both teams are vying for a playoff spot in the conference tournament. La Salle got a 2 – 0 lead, but Saint Joe’s pulled to within 3 – 1. Kenny Lassiter scored twice for LSU as he scored the first and last goals for his team. Lassiter was named one of the Philadelphia Soccer Six Players of the Week for his performance. The Explorers are tied for the last playoff berth even up with Saint Bonaventure and Saint Louis.

PENN – 3 – 9 – 1 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 Ivy League
Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Villanova, Won 4 – 1 vs. Yale both at Rhodes Field
Summary – The University of Pennsylvania fell behind 2- 0 in the first half in a Soccer Six matchup. Joe Swenson scored for Penn on a penalty kick. The Quakers bounced back with an Ivy League win against Yale that broke a three game losing streak. Swenson got a hat trick against the Bulldogs and added an assist in being named a Player of the Week in the Soccer Six. Swenson has 7 goals for the Red and BLue.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 3 – 9 – 4 Overall, 1 – 4 – 1 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 4 – 2 at La Salle, Lost 3 – 0 vs. VCU at Sweeney Field
Summary – The Hawks dropped a pair of conference game. Richie Barry put two into the net against La Salle and was the PS6 Rookie of the Week. Saint Joe’s could not find the back of the net in Virginia. The Rams scored all three of their goals in the second half. Goalie Greg O’Connell registered his 144th career save. SJU on a three-game losing streak, are in 11th place in the Atlantic 10, but are only 2 points out of a playoff spot.

TEMPLE 8 – 6 – 1 Overall, 2 – 3 – 0 AAC
Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. NJIT, Won 3 – 1 vs. Tulsa at the Temple Sports Complex
Summary – It was a pair of 3 – 1 wins for the Owls. All three scores came in the first half against NJIT. Temple scored in bunches again in the Tulsa game. The Golden Hurricanes got the initial goal at 1:20. Michael Samnik recorded 7 saves in the American Conference tilt as he won the Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week award. The Cherry and White won 6 of their last 7 games.

VILLANOVA 7 – 8 – 0, 2 – 4 – 0 Big East
Results – Won 2 – 1 at Penn, Lost 1 – 0 at Butler
Summary – Zach Zandi and Miguel Polley scored for the Villanova in the first 25 minutes against Penn. Zandi was a Soccer Six Player of the Week. With the win Nova clinched a share of the Soccer Six Title. The team was blanked at Butler as Lewis Suddick got the only goal of the game in Indianapolis. With three games left to play the Wildcats are one point out of a Big East tournament spot.
