Temple Posts Two Victories, Drexel Wins A Conference Game

Week of  September 26 – October 1, 2017

DREXEL 2 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 1 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 3 – 2 at Delaware, Won 2 – 1 (OT) vs. Northeastern at Vidas Field

Summary –  The Dragon split their conference games this week.  They overcame a two goal deficit at Delaware, but a goal at 53:36 gave the Blue Hens the victory.  Drexel bounced back with an overtime win on a goal by Sebastien Cabral in the 96th minute.  Dakota Peterson scored in both games. Mathias Ebbesen also found the back of the net.  The Dragons were outshot in each contest by a total of 37 – 18.

Next Game – 10/3 at Temple

LA SALLE 4 – 5 – 1 Overall, 0 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 1 – 1 vs. LIU Brooklyn at McCarthy Stadium, Lost 3 – 1 at Duquesne

Summary – The five game streak without a loss came to an end in Pittsburgh when the Explorers fell in their conference opener.  In the draw against LIU Johnny tucked the ball inside the post with 41 seconds to play in regulation to send the game into overtime.  Hayden Criollo scored against the Dukes.

Next Game – 10/4 at Fordham

PENN – 1 – 6 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsTied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Cornell at Rhodes Field

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania extended their unbeaten streak against Cornell to five years.  Penn had an early lead when Jevel Blades scored off a corner kick in the 19th minute.  The Big Red tied it in the 84th minute.  Goalie Etan Mabourakh made 6 saves for the Red and Blue.

Next Game – 10/4 at Delaware

SAINT JOSEPH’S  2 – 5 – 3 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Navy, Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Central Connecticut State University  at Sweeney Field

Summary –  The Hawks Goalie Greg O’Connell turned in 13 saves over the week and Derek MacKinnon posted his first goal of the season in the 89th minute to earn the draw against CCSU.  Saint Joe’s opens Atlantic 10 play at Dayton.

Next Game – 10/4 at Dayton

TEMPLE 4 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 AAC

Results – Won 3 – 0 vs. Penn State at the Temple Sports Complex, Won 2 –  1 (2 OT) at Memphis

Summary –  A big week for the Owls as they put two in the win column.  Alan Soto Camacho scored three goals, both at Memphis to earn the win.  Camacho’s game came in the 102nd minute.  He also had a score in the Penn State game and was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player and Rookie of the Week.  The Defender of the Week was Goalie Michael Samnik who posted a shutout against Penn State.  He nearly had another clean slate, but Memphis got one by him with 9 seconds remaining in regulation.  Thibault Candia had two goals in the two games.

Next Game – 10/37 vs. Drexel at the Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA 5 – 5 – 0 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at DePaul

Summary – In game that was as close as the score indicated it took a goal by Stijin Van Der Slot of the Blue Devils in the 74th minute to decide it.  Each team put up 11 shots.  Derek Polley had 3 for Villanova.

Next Game – 10/4 at Princeton
