Feyonda Fitzgerald, Temple – The Owls senior guard scored 25 points in the upset over nationally ranked DePaul.  In the win at Rutgers Fitzgerald scored 20 points and added 4 assists and 6 steals, a career-best.  Over the week the Owls guard averaged 22 points, 4 assists, and 3.5 steals, a week where Temple upset a ranked team and won in Piscataway since the 2010-11 season.

Games The Week of December 13 – 19 2016

LA SALLE 6 – 4 Overall,  1 – 0 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results –   Idle

Summary – The Explorers are off until December 21 facing final exams when they host the Hornets of Delaware State.

Next Game – 12/21/2016 – vs. Delaware State at the Gola Arena

PENN 4 – 4 Overall,  0 – 0 Ivy League,  0 – 2 Big Five

Results –  Idle

Summary – The Quakers are taking final exams as well, and have off until the California trip at the end of the month.

Next Game – 12/31 at CSU – Northridge

SAINT JOSEPH’S 3 – 7 Overall, 0 –0 Atlantic 10, 1

Results – Won 75 – 36 vs. NJIT at the Hagan Arena, Lost 60 – 49 at Drexel

Summary – It was a mix of result for the Hawks over the week.  It started with a big win over NJIT.  The margin of victory was the largest for Coach Cindy Griffin.  Sarah Veilleux scored a career-high 19 points.  The week ended with a loss at Drexel.  The teams entered the fourth quarter tied, but the Dragons pulled away in the final period.  Chelsea Woods scored 14 points.  Alyssa Monaghan and Adashia Franklyn each posted 10 points.

Next Game – 12/22/2016 vs. Hofstra at the Hagan Arena

TEMPLE 7 – 3,  Overall, 0 – 0 AAC, 3 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 84 – 74 vs. #17/16 DePaul at McGonigle Hall, Won 48 – 37 at Rutgers

Summary -The victory over DePaul was the team’s first win over a ranked opponent since February 6, 2016 when the Owls beat #19 USF. This was Temple’s first victory against a ranked non-conference opponent since 2007 when the Owls upset #22 Purdue 61-47.  Feyonda Fitzgerald scored 25 points, and fellow guard Butts notched 20.  Donnaizha Fountain put up 13 and 13, her second straight double-double.  Temple turned to the defensive end of the floor in defeating Rutgers in Piscataway.  It was their first win over the RU in five years.  The Owls limited the Scarlet Knights to 11 points in the second half.  Fitzgerald led the way with 19 points and a career-high 6 steals.  Fountain had 15 points for the Cherry and White.  The Owls winning streak is at three games.

Next Game – 12/22 vs. Fairfield at McGonigle Hall

VILLANOVA  4 – 5 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Idle

Summary –  The Wildcats resume play after finals going to Durham, NC to play the Duke Blue Devils

Next Game – 12/21 at Duke

DREXEL 6 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 79 – 57 vs. Niagara, Won 60 – 49 vs. Saint Joseph’s both at the DAC

Summary –  The Dragons swept both home games this week.  In the win over Niagara Bailey Greenberg posted her first double-double, Meghan Creighton added 24 points going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc.  Against Saint Joseph’s it was time for Ana Ferariu to emerge, and she did scoring 18 points in 13 minutes to spark Drexel to the victory.
