Saint Joseph’s Tied For First Place In A10, Drexel Now The Third Seed In CAA

Games For The Week of October  12 – 18, 2016

DREXEL 8– 6 – 3 Overall, 4 – 2 – 2 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Elon, Lost 2 – 1 at William & Mary

Summary – The Dragons have dropped to third place in conference as the road trip yielded a tie and a loss.  Drexel managed a goal at William & Mary scored by Vanessa Kara who had 8 shots over the two games.  Goal Keeper Christiana Ogunsami had 8 saves.  Two early goals by the Tribe proved to be too much to overcome.

Next Game – 10/23 vs. Delaware at Vidas Sports Complex

LA SALLE 3 – 8 – 3 Overall, 1 – 2 – 3 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) at Dayton, Lost 1 – 0 (2 OT) at VCU

Summary –  The Explorers played a pair of double overtime games.  La Salle got a draw and a loss.  There were lots of shots at Dayton with La Salle having a season-high 25 against 21 by the hosts.  Kristin Haugstad scored the tying goal at the 85:25 mark.  The Rams got the only goal in Richmond by Amanda Treadway in the 101st minute.  Explorers goal keeper Larisa Zambelli had 6 saves against 11 shots.  La Salle had a 12 – 11 advantage in shots.

Next Game – 10/20 at Richmond

PENN – 7 – 3 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 Ivy League

Results   Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) at Dartmouth

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania gave up an early goal, something they have not done all season.  Dartmouth scored on a penalty kick in the 10th minute of play to take the lead.  Paige Lombard scored the equalizer from inside the box off a corner kick in the 66th minute.  Penn outshot Dartmouth 16 – 7, but only one got by each goal keeper.

Next Game – 10/22 at Yale

SAINT JOSEPH’S  12 – 1 – 2 Overall, 5 – 0 – 1 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 5 – 2 vs. Richmond at Sweeny Field, Won 3 – 2 (OT)at Duquesne

Summary – The Hawks have climbed into a tie for the top spot in the Atlantic 10 conference.  After getting a season-high 5 goals against Richmond, Saint Joe’s vaulted past Duquesne with a 3 – 2 overtime win on the Bluffs.  Dakota Mills put home the game-winner 41 seconds into overtime.  Michaela Finneyfrock scored twice in regulation.  Mills had 3 goals over the two games and was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week.  Emily Gingrich had 2 goals against Richmond.  Saint Louis and Saint Joseph’s lead the pack.  They meet Thursday night on Hawk Hill.

Next Game – 10/20 vs. Saint Louis at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 3 – 13 – 0 Overall 0 – 6 – 0 American

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) vs. USF, Lost 2 – 0 vs. UCF both games at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – The Owls were shutout in two games against the Floridians.   Temple goal keeper made 10 saves in facing 36 shots, but was victimized by a USF goal in the 103rd minute by Grace Adams and two by Carlin Huegli and Carol Rodrigues.

Next Game – 10/22 vs. UConn at the Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA  3 – 12 – 0 Overall, 1 – 5 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 5 – 1 at #7 Georgetown, Lost 1 – 0 at Xavier

Summary – The nationally-ranked Hoyas took a 4 – 0 lead into halftime.  The WIldcats did get a goal from Ida DiClemente in the 75th minute.  That would be the only score for the Cats over the two games.  The Musketeers got a goal by Samantha Dewey to get the win.  Villanova outshot Xavier 21 – 13 after being behind Georgetown in shots 17 – 6.

Next Game – 10/20 vs. Marquette
