Sarah Fairbanks, Saint Joseph’s – Fairbanks led the Hawks to two victories over city rivals over the week.  She tied a career-high with 23 points against Drexel and had a team-high 11 points against Penn.  Fairbanks pulled down 9 rebounds in both contests.  For the week the senior forward averaged 17 points, 9 boards, and 3.5 assists, shooting 65% (13 for 20) and made 8 of 11 from the free throw line.

Alliya Butts, Temple – The sophomore guard had a career performance against Sacred Heart.  In that game Butts set a career-mark in points with 24 and in made three-pointers with 6.  In that game she added 6 assists and 3 steals.  Butts followed that performance with 13 points against Fordham.  For the week Butts made 15 of 23 field goal attempts, and converted 8 from distance.

LA SALLE 1 – 7 Overall, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10, 0 – 1 Big Five

Results –   Idle

Summary –  The Explorers return to action tomorrow hosting North Texas at The Gola Arena.

Next Game – 12/16/2015 vs. North Texas

PENN 5 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 Ivy League, 0 – 1 Big Five

Results –  Lost 50 – 46 at Saint Joseph’s

Summary –  The University of Pennsylvania 5 game winning streak came to an end at The Hagan in the team’s initial Big Five contest.  Saint Joseph’s guard Ciara Andrews jumper with 7 seconds on the clock decided the issue.  Michelle Nwokedi had 9 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high 7 blocked shots.  Lauren Whitlatch led the Red and Blue in scoring with 11.  Anna Ross added 9 points.

Next Game – 12/19/2015 vs. Drexel at The Palestra

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Won 50 – 46 vs. Penn, Won 53 – 46 vs. Drexel at The Hagan Arena

Summary – The Hawks hosted local rivals during the week and with two wins, evened their season record at 4 – 4.  Sarah Fairbanks led the way tying her career-high 23 points against Drexel.  For the week the senior forward scored 34 points, 18 rebounds, and had 7 assists.  Fairbanks was a solid 13 for 20 from the floor and made 8 of 11 free throws.  Saint Joe’s gave up 46 points to each opponent.

Next Game – 12/18/2015 vs. Iona at The Hagan Arena – 11:30 AM Tip-off

TEMPLE 5 – 4   Overall, 0 – 0 AAC, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Won 92 – 62 vs. Sacred Heart at McGonigle Hall, Won 57 – 44 at Fordham

Summary – Alliya Butts had a career day for the Owls against Sacred Heart setting marks in points with 24 and made three-pointers with 6.  The sophomore guard added 6 assists and 6 steals.  Butts followed that with a 13 point performance against Fordham.  Donnaizha Fountain scored 27 points over the week.  Tanaya Atkinson notched a double-double in the Sacred Heart game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Next Game – 12/19/2015 vs. Delaware State at The Liacouris Center

VILLANOVA  5 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East, 1 – 1 Big Five

Results – Lost 78 – 70 at George Washington

Summary –  The Wildcats held a 61 – 60 lead with 3:24 to play, but fell victim to a late rally by the Colonials started by a rare 5-point GW possession.  Jordan Dillard and Caroline Coyer led Villanova in scoring with 16 points each.  Dillard set a new career-mark in scoring.  Coyer added 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and had 3 steals.  Adrianna Hahn tied her career-high with 15 points.

Next Game – 12/20/2015 at La Salle

DREXEL 3 – 5 Overall, 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost  53 – 46 at Saint Joseph’s

Summary –  The Dragons are 0 – 2 against city opponents as they fell at Saint Joseph’s.  Drexel stayed in contention shooting from the outside (5 – 18 from beyond the arc) led by Rachel Pearson who scored a team-high 20 points.  The Dragons got to within a possession in the fourth quarter, but could not get the lead.  Another city rival awaits Drexel who have a Battle of 33rd Street at the Palestra.
